Background
Eorhelm, Commander of the Mark
Eorhelm, son of Léodgar, hails from the Westfold of the Riddermark, of the blood of the horse-lords who followed Eorl the Young south from the lands of the Éothéod. Born beneath the long shadow of the White Mountains, he was raised among riders and wardens, learning early that the strength of Rohan lies not only in charge and blade, but in vigilance, restraint, and unity. In his youth he bore spear and javelin in the service of Erkenbrand’s éored, guarding the western marches during the darkening days when the White Hand stirred in Isengard. From those years he carried away no love of war, but a clear understanding of its cost. Eorhelm learned to watch the borders closely, to listen more than he spoke, and to weigh carefully when force was truly required. In time, by the will of the King of Rohan and under royal mandate, Eorhelm was appointed Commander of a detached éored, charged with a singular task: to secure the trade routes and overland paths between Rohan and Eriador, safeguarding merchants, messengers, and allies of the Free Peoples. His riders range the roads, river-crossings, and wild borders, standing as a quiet shield against banditry, lingering foes, and the slow return of shadow to lands thought safe.
Eorhelm is no seeker of renown. His shaven head and long, braided beard mark him as a veteran who has seen enough blood spilled for pride alone. He believes that small wrongs must sometimes be endured, for hardship teaches wisdom — but when injustice grows vast, when lives or peace are truly threatened, he acts without hesitation, shield raised and command given. He serves the King of Rohan, whoever may sit the throne, and the law of the Mark above all else. To his riders he is a steady presence rather than a fiery banner, leading by example, patience, and resolve. To allies, he is a watcher of the roads; to enemies, a warning that Rohan’s reach does not end at its borders.
Eorhelm does not ride for songs or glory. He rides so others may travel in safety, trade in peace, and sleep without fear — until the day Rohan no longer needs wardens upon its roads.
