Outward Appearance

A tall man with thick wavy hair and a neatly-trimmed beard stands before you. He appears to be in his mid-thirties, with a kind, if a little haughty, face and almond-coloured eyes. When he speaks, his accent marks him as a Dale-Man, and he has all the courtesy and directness of his kin.

He often wears smart robes, that suggest refinement rather than ostentation. On his right hand he wears a silver signet ring, bearing the seal of King Brand of Dale, and on his left, a simple golden band.

Background

Orhyn's family were amongst the first to return to Dale in the aftermath of the Battle of the Five Armies. Though only a humble fish-seller on the shores of Esgaroth, Orhyn's grandfather hearkened to the call of King Bard and worked tirelessly to rebuild the city of Dale. Together with his fellow merchants, he helped transform the spoils of battle into long-term prosperity, reopening old trade routes with the Dwarves of Erebor and the Elves of Mirkwood, and forging new ones with peoples as distant as Rhun, Eriador, and even Gondor.

Inevitably, Orhyn's grandfather shared in the wealth of Dale, and became prosperous in his own right, eventually sitting on the influential council of merchants that advised King Bard. His father merely cemented this success, turning his hand to civic governance and serving several terms as Chancellor to the City Council.

Orhyn was raised in Dale itself, tutored by Master Brundir Goldquill, a Dwarrow Scholar from the Iron Hills who made something of a name for himself amongst the merchants of Dale as a teacher of both letter and swordplay for their sons (and very occasionally, their daughters). Much to his father's approval, he was invited to serve as a squire in the court of the King when he had seen nine winters. Though the work was often hard, it was a privileged position. By the time he was fourteen, Orhyn was invited to accompany the envoy to the Vineyards of Dorwinion, where he received his first experience of trade negotiations.

Over time, Orhyn demonstrated both enthusiasm and competence serving Dale's interests abroad. He spent several years working with the Dwarves of Erebor, and retains an enormous affection for their culture and ways. He returned to Dale upon the death of his father, and remained there to serve in the Council to the King, during which time he met and married his wife Maegyn, the daughter of a prominent Councillor. They were blessed with a son, whom Orhyn named Brunnal after his much loved dwarven tutor, and two years later, Maegyn gave birth to twin girls, Audrey and Margery.

In the summer of last year, Orhyn was commanded to travel with a consortium of merchants through Rohan and into Eriador, to seek a more permanent relationship with the men who dwelt there. He spent time at Ost Guruth with the Eglain, before the orcs of the White Hand wrought devastation in the Lone Lands, but soon moved to Bree, where he presently resides, negotiating on behalf of his fellow Dalemen at the office of the Mayor.
