Outward Appearance

Among the first things one will notice about Celithir is that he is taller than the average elf by a full head.  His face is gentle and kind, and fair even for an elf.  He has sandy orange hair that falls to the middle of his back and shines in the light.  He tends to keep it styled with intricate braids and beads, and where it isn't pulled up, it curls slightly.  His eyes are a markedly vibrant green, full of emotion and warmth.  When he speaks, his voice is soft and melodic, the sort that might be soothing no matter what words it carries.

More often than not, his clothing is tattered and frayed from heavy use on the road.  He mends it now and then, but there always seems to be a new hole here or there.  He tends to wear shades of blue or green, sometimes both, depending on how recently he has exchanged for "new" travel clothes.  He wears several rings on his fingers, only one jeweled-- blue sapphire.  Other than his seemingly outworn clothing, he is nigh immaculate in appearance: nails trimmed and well-kept, skin clear, body lithe and in lovely condition.

At any given point, Celithir will appear to be a very warm and friendly person.  He may come off as odd, as he often shifts his demeanor to fit the location he is currently visiting.  At times, his cheerful personality may come off as superficial or forced; sometimes it is.  Nevertheless, he is a genuinely caring person who will always spare the time for those in need.

One will find on his person either a lute or a harp, the other of which is left with his horse, Spania. The lute is lovingly crafted, and bears an odd nick that alters the sound just so.  The harp, however, does not appear to have any features of special note.  He is only rarely seen with weapons, as he has little interest in fighting. This will either be a polearm, with which he has some proficiency, or a sword, which travels easier.  All that he does not carry with him is either discarded or kept in Rivendell, a place he has come to think of as a home of sorts.

Background

Celithir was born in Ossiriand in Y.T. 1491.  His father, Faladir Willowsong, was born in Valinor. He has been wandering since King Denethor was slain, never again to claim a home; he finds the idea of settling down to be stifling, for the darkness is ever spreading and memories are ever lurking. His 'surname,' Silverstream, was a nickname granted to him by a friend years ago for prowess in some odd game.

Celithir appears unusually light of demeanor for an elf, reveling in song and worldly pleasures. In truth, he merely seeks to raise the spirits of those he meets, and sees this as his most precious task. To that end, he plays the part of a cheerful soul with little worry, hiding the deep sadness that churns within. As is the case with most of elvenkind, he longs to sail west, yet he feels keenly that his part is not yet fully played. He wishes only to be a beacon of light and goodness in dark times. His long history has granted him insight and inspiration, and he has a deep fondness for the younger races of the world.

Celithir is a vegetarian, as was traditional of the Laiquendi. He has shed most other habits and traditions over the many long ages, as he was relatively young when Denethor was slain, and overfull with impressionable curiosity and emotion. Furthermore, he has taken on many unusual mannerisms, such as mannish gestures and sayings.

In days past, Celithir would visit Gil-galad unannounced as one might whimsically visit any friend, sharing stories and songs of all he had seen. This was met with the expected reactions, and yet for his efforts he was often rewarded with the high king's smiles; thus could none argue in dire times that he did not do his part. In return, Gil-galad taught Celithir how to wield a spear, that he might be able to properly defend himself in combat. Celithir, however, was opposed to fighting-- yet still, he answered his dearly cherished friend's call to arms during the War of the Last Alliance, for although he acknowledged no king, he believed in no one more than he did Gil-galad.

Celithir and Elrond shared a mildly antagonistic relationship for a time. Elrond did not appreciate Celithir's whimsical and deceptive nature, and in turn, Celithir had no love for the single-mindedness that Elrond showed in those days. Yet, despite this, they were often in each other's company, and yet considered each other acquaintances at least.

After Gil-galad's demise, Celithir was utterly despondent. He sat where the high king fell for 12 days and nights, for each star on his standard, heedless of the world beyond his vigil. After that time, he vanished for thousands of years. Those who believed they caught glimpses of him would swear they had happened upon a phantom, so deep was his mourning. He would not formally show himself again until after Celebrían's departure, where he offered comfort to his old friend, Elrond. From then on, the two would have a closer friendship.

Finally, Celithir refocused himself to his purpose: he would bring light to lands succumbing to darkness. To this end, he began his travels anew, revisiting paths he had followed countless times before, donning a smile like a mask, until the day Círdan sends for him to depart aboard the last ship west.

It can be assumed that the bond between Celithir and Gil-galad is tinged with romantic nature. Neither have taken any lover, however, and so this is merely speculation.
