Before the reclaiming of his ancestral home at the Lonely Mountain he made his living as a traveling merchant. He is a shrewed businessman and a very well traveled merchant. He was was summoned from Ered Luin to aid his kin at the Battle of Five Armies, where he fought valiantly beside men and elves alike. After seeing many of his kin fall including his Lord, King Thorin, which saddened him greatly. Since then he has aquired a seething hatred for goblins and wargs and goes out of his way to hunt them on his travels. Before the battle, his dealings were mostly with the elves of Rivendell and the peoples of Bree, but his new home at the Lonely Mountian and his friendship with Narmoth, an elf commrade who he fought beside at the Lonely Mountain, has extended his trade routes significantly. It was after the battle that Narmoth honored him with name "Seregond" (the elven translation of his common tongue name "Blood-Stone") for saving his life during the battle. He is currently researching ancient jewelcrafting technics in the libraries of Rivendell with the help of another friend, an elven scholar named Morlhachar, who he and Narmoth spend many drunken nights with smoking pipe-weed and trading tales of their adventures.

He is motivated by greed and an appreciation of beautiful things crafted by a master's hand. His time spent with the elves has given him a new appreciation for the beautiful things in nature which has come to be reflected in his works.
