Amran comes from a far-off realm to the East, where for many long years the Avarin Dark Elves have dwelt far from the light of the Undying Lands. She is one of the Firstborn, those first one hundred forty-four Elves to awaken beneath the stars at Cuiviénen long before the First Age. Like many of her kin, she did not trust the words of Oromë the Huntsman, who brought many of the Elves to the West on their Great Journey. She remained behind in the far east, with the fifty-six Firstborn who refused the call of the Valar.

Amran would be related to those Eldar who are known as the Teleri, as can be seen by her silvery white hair and blue eyes. She joined with the Hwenti tribe in the first years after the Eldar's departure from the great inland sea. After the Inland Sea went dry, she became a wandering huntress of the woods. Her millennia spent in Middle-earth have brought her to nearly every corner of the known world.

Amran is rather quick-tempered for an Elf, and she tolerates no disrespect or haste at improper times. Given her great age, those who look upon her face closely can see some signs of aging that come with the third Elvish life cycle, a rarity in Middle-earth. She is very calculating in her actions, given her over ten thousand years of experience in hunting and wilderness survival. She is especially skilled in trapping and in the art of preparing meals out of little available materials.
