Vur grew up in the Red Mountains (Orocarni) - far to the East, in the southern half especially where the Blacklocks and Stonefoots dwelt (he and his family were Stonefoots). He spent 70 years in these mountains, he spent most of that learning how to fight under the guidance of his father, Murloin who was a soldier himself. One day he and his brother, Araslain was strolling through the mountains when they stumbled into an argument concerning their strength so Vur and Araslain became too angry and ended up in a fight with this dwarf however their anger got the better off them and they killed him (by accident of course but the blame and fault was still theirs), they were banished from the Red Mountains. They never went there ever again.

They spent the next few decades exploring and traveling up north until they reached the Iron Hills where they dwelt there. They stayed there for a time until around the time of the Battle of the Five Armies where they joined the dwarves. Araslain was unfortunate in this battle, he wasn't as good as fighting as Vur and thus halfway-through the battle he fell as goblins slaughtered and ripped him apart, Vur who watched this and mad with grief roared out in fury and fought like a storm (thus how he earned the name 'Stormbeard') he slaughtered and destoryed every goblin he caught sight of. When the battle ended, he as with the rest of the dwarves settled in Erebor where he lived for 41 years but in all that time, he swore that he would destory all goblins to avenge his fallen brother.

When he was 178 years, he traveled out of Erebor and set out on his task to destory any goblins he found.The task was hard as the Battle of the Five Armies seemed to have lessen the number of goblins, he traveled across the Misty Mountains and through the lands of Eriador, he stayed in the inns and towns during his quest until he came across the Blue Mountains which brings us to now. Much of his life is a mystery to most people and he doesn't like to talk about it unless he trusts that person greatly.
