With thick, dark hair that stands out in Ered Luin's sizeable population of fair-haired dwarves and a voice that rumbles in the very throat containing it, Thaosli is not one to be trifled with easily. He's hardly aware of his less-than-formidable height -- a stretching 4'5" ft/1.35 m -- having spent the beginning of his years in Ered Luin around those of similar proportions.

Perhaps most noticeable is his short and tied beard. The thick luxurious beards the dwarves are so intricately proud of are, alas, something that is not to be desired when nocking arrows and pulling bowstring back repeatedly. Recently, he's taken to leaving the rest of his wavy hair loose down his back (perhaps to compensate, not that he'll admit it).

He carries a short bow on his back, all but stifling his cloak when he takes the mind to wear one (drawn up hoods in the cold perhaps remind him of home in the North; and if it's getting a tad frayed at the edge, he'll say nothing). Taking great care that all his gloves are always either thickly made and able to withstand harsh weather or loose enough to allow him grips on his bowstring, he is always very selective in what he wears.

Background

His father, Bafi, worked in the mines of Ered Luin, so dedicated to his craft that Thaosli saw relatively little of him through his beginning years. His mother, Aunn -- a raw and wild fury with an axe -- was good and loving and supported Thaosli unyieldingly, even when he took up the art of the bow as opposed to a more conventional weapon. The last of three dwarrowlings total (Gisli, specializing in trading transport around Ered Luin, Hlif, their sister, and finally Thaosli), Thaosli has seen his siblings stay content with trading at at home and decided he wanted none of that, perhaps at the risk of forgoing smarter paths.

He's fiercely secretive, even with enough ale in him to put choice Hobbits to shame (although his somewhat low tolerance isn't to be mentioned, especially if Isebrien starts telling the story about him getting atop the roof of the Prancing Pony), and stands firm in his beliefs that secrets are important. Either because of his Dwarven upbringing or as a personality trait, he values both his independence and the loyalty he keeps. His enemies are attacked upon in the name of retribution when applicable, not revenge, although he's been known to enjoy a good bar fight when necessary.

Perhaps while one part of him yearns for the adventure he had heard only in tales around a fire, another longs for a place of his own to call home, even if it's an inn in Bree.

Frequenting the Prancing Pony in Bree with an alarming rate (he can almost hear the fretting of his mother), he always seems to end up back in front of Barliman Butterbur, smiling and eager to toss back a pint while he alludes (but never confirms) of his doings in Eriador.

Thaosli travels with an elven counterpart with a sharp wit and an even sharper tongue. Although Isebrien tends to lurk in the rooms more towards the back, if Thaosli's around, he'll very quickly whisper to the poor soul interacting with Isebrien that she means well, really. Having traveled around with an elf for so long, he's become accustomed to meeting other races and people, although he's formed a strong friendship with Isebrien in particular. As close mates usually do, they have a tendency to take the piss out of each other.

Thaosli has also become aware of the strange going-ons in Bree-town. Men turning up dead, others gutted and all but dead, less savoury sorts being chased out of town by those who do the very things they condemn. While decisively trying to maintain neutral, he keeps a wary eye on certain groups that also frequent the Pony.

Since joining Khuzd Belkul , Thaosli seems to have found a place in the group he rather likes. Being one of the youngest, he has more opportunity to joke and fool around (and the other members of the kinship may be quick to point out that Thaosli's a bit of a trouble-maker). When some of the older members voice their disdain for other races (Elves, for instance), Thaosli will usually make a comment in their defence.

He always has his door open for dwarves and non-Dwarrow alike, willing to entertain and feed via 4 Wending Way, Starshot, Shire Homesteads.
