Cross My Heart ~ Part One

I stalked into the wolf-cave....crumbling ruins and a waterfall filled the damp hall that is home to my tribe. I noticed my chief standing impatiently at the other end.

I started, "You zed yaw had a job for me?"

"Hunt for a missing person," they answered. "The client's name is Rilav the Younger...over in Evendim. Her daughter Unntan is a jeweller visiting the town of Bree to 'find herself.' 'Er went to...the Prancing Pony last night, and Rilav hasn't heard from her since."

I smirked. "I tight, I figured yaw'd be too smart to fall for the ol' Dunedain Prince scam..."

"Gauredain," Chief corrected. "And 'er's definitely real..."

I glanced toward the back of the underground fortress.

"...we're going on a leary for a maid who's been missing for what... one morning?" I asked incredulously.

"Rilav zed Unntan howls every morning, so the lack of a check-in has her rattled. That and 'er says Unntan's been acting odd all week."

"Odd how?"
"Unntan was unusually distant, and seemed troubled by something. 'Er told her mother 'er was in over her head and worried, but wouldn't specify by what."

"And the Watch won't do anything because idn hasn't even been a day..."

"Which is where we come in. Doing the jobs they won't."

"You zed her last known whereabouts was the Prancing Pony? I'll start there."

"Da..."

I looked down at myself. "I should put on something a little tougher..."

I tugged at the sleeves of the leather jacket. It was sleek and smooth. Almost immediately, I felt a wave of confidence wash over me.
"Alright, maybe there's something to leather armor," I conceded.

"Dressing for the job. I respect that."

"No more wasting time. I'm going."
