Date: Twenty-fifth day of the first month
Recruit name: Cween
The Barrow Downs that are haunting in more ways than once, but as a recruit when you get sent somewhere you get going no matter the shivers running along your spine. The shivers I get from that creepy place the strange fog that seems to cling to every fibre of your being. The creatures appear from it as they have materialised from nothing. Yet they are tough and vicious. Like the barghest, dog like creatures with an internal evil something about them chills my blood. It made it almost bearable to visit the Downs knowing it would be them I was slaughtering.
I found that they were spread out amongst the barrows strange mounds that I tried to give a wide berth although a few times I found the fog obscured them until I was almost on top of them. The beasts themselves were brutal. Their howls made me want to turn and flee each and every time no matter how much I tried to prepare myself, to steady my nerve. I did manage to keep just enough resolve to stand my ground.
It is a strange place the barrows and I ended up spotting a number of strange places, rock formations and carving. Even a small camp of people with views over Bree that gave me such a yearning to head home, but I was still a few beasts down on my target so onwards I went</span>.
In all my task was complete well before I left the cursed place, as my explorations continued to scout out the southern area of the Barrows over a range of hills that seems to cut the area in two. I did complete the cull, and the merchants will hopefully be content that their numbers have been reduced.
