II - Back to Work

His breath struggled to come to him and his brow was wet with sweat, his hair tangled across his face. There was a burning sensation in his shoulders and arms, and each stroke of the oars made his healing wound burn again. Ulfvidr paused, lifting the oars into the boat as he leaned back to rest his head against the seat at the bow of the rowboat.

His shirt clung to him from a mixture of water splashing as the oar disturbed the water and his own sweat. His weeks of bed rest following his injury had certainly done him no favour and with each flex of his muscles as he battled the water he could almost feel the blade stabbing into his arm again. The Bardings chest heaved as he sat up again, opening up the water skin he carried and taking hearty gulps before stashing it away again, only to cup some water from the Long Lake and splash it onto his face.

Ulfvidr glanced about the rowboat stashed with all sorts of goods, glancing back and forth as he made sure he put on everything his father told him to. Nails and tools? Check. Planks of wood? As many as he could fit on the boat, yes. Some hides and furs? A big yes, for something had to cushion this damned plank of wood that was alike sitting on stone. And finally some food though this was not from his father, instead this was a collection of bits that Ulfvidr himself could find after having heard that Lake Town was damaged in the war, and so a good deed would be welcomed he thought to himself. Not only did he pack small bits of food, but also a couple of dwarven toys that he managed to find and repair himself in the time he has had doing nothing other than resting.

Up with the oars again, and he got to rowing though at a slower and more relaxed pace, breathing still quite harshly through his clenched jaw as the burning of his muscles started again rather swiftly.  At this rate, he thought, he should be getting to Lake Town before dusk, considering it was nearing noon now. Not long now..
