Home Again, Home Again

Farette couldn’t read or write, she could only commit to forging the details of her day into memory.  Not much had changed in Bree she thought as she lied down on the ground beneath a makeshift tent. Since her release from servitude and imprisonment she encountered the same criminals and harlots there in Begger’s Alley, only their faces had changed. Some she recognized, but most she didn’t. Ten years is near a life time the people here. Not many last too long in the Alley.

She turned on the old horse bedding she’d been allowed to take from the stable at the pony. It was much too old, ragged, and not fit to be seen there. She felt lucky that Mister Butterbur didn’t think the same of her when she came to him for work. Funny that, work was pretty much the same as before. Stables and horses. Now she thought of it though, not much had really changed. If she didn’t work, she didn’t eat, and now she didn’t even have the safety of walls at night or a bed. There was also trouble all around her. Already plots and gossip were whispered in the streets.

Before falling asleep she resolved to keep to herself and work her way out of Begger’s Alley as soon as she could. Maybe she worked hard Mister Butterbur might let her sleep in he stables with the horses.
