| Outward Appearance | Once upon a time on the borders of the Shire, in a little town called Bucklebury, there lived a hobbit.
Not some dirty village town of Men, home to strange and shady folk of all natures, this was a hobbit town, which meant peace and quiet and kindhearted fellows. The green grass by the waterside of the Brandywine river was of course mirrored by the High Hedge, beyond which lay the infamous Old Forest, dark and ominous to many, but not to little Smigget who grew up under the overhanging branches of those few trees who dared to cross the High Hedge, built long ago by the Oldbucks of Buckland. Smigget ever wondered what lay within the forest, but it was no business for a hobbit to go and investigate, especially not for one as young as little Smigget.
Smigiadoc Buckleburrow is little indeed for being one of Stoorish descent. He rarely wears shoes like is common amongst Shirefolk, but not uncommon amongst the Bucklanders, who for that very reason – and several others I might add – are looked upon by most hobbits as quite peculiar. Smigget himself is most peculiar, being so inclined to walk the many miles of the Shire to visit his friends on daily basis. One would almost deem him of the adventurous sort, and that is hardly decent for a hobbit now is it?
Though he is known to occasionally wear shoes, in truth Smigget is no different from the rest of his kin, at least not to outsiders. For he loves what all hobbits love: good food on the table, a warm hearth and all the comforts of home. He has a love for things that grow too, like onions and pumpkins and little piggies. His favourite pig is called Mr. Wigglesworth and he counts him amongst his friends.
Smigget hates hard work and he would do anything to avoid it. His father may be quite the farmer, his son is definitely not, not yet at least. In fact he is known to deviously steal from the crops of other farmers, though not out of evil intent, merely out of love for food. He sees little harm in it, though Farmer Maggot would say otherwise!
Smigget adores parties. He even attended Bilbo’s eleventy-first birthday party while he was not invited! He is quite interested too in the lady folk that it attracts. In fact, one of his least endearing attributes is his incessant desire to impress the hobbit lasses. Whether it is playing with fireworks or competing in drinking games, he will do whatever he can to win their hearts over. |
