Tîn Gilith - Return To Mithlond (Part 1)

In the first few months of T.A. 2931, there was an unexpected celestial events in the night sky above Middle-earth. Stargazers had noticed a very rare and unusual alignment of stars. This was believed to be a sign. The Lord and Lady were following the stars movements with great interest, and on the first day of March 2931 T.A., Galadriel believed an ancient prophecy had come to pass.

As one of the Ambassadors of Caras Galadhon, Gilith was summoned to The Court Chamber. She stepped forward and sunk to one knee, hand over her heart and eyes shining like the moon. "My Lady, My Lord!".  In the hall, smiling at her, sat the Lord and the Lady. Lady Galadriel was fair and tall, and very beautiful. Her eyes looked deep into Gilith's heart, and her smile was the kindest and happiest smile in Middle-earth. Her hair, golden and long, rested on her shoulders, and looked like pure gold. Lord Celeborn was tall and fair, and looked very kingly and wise. Both of them stood up as Gilith walked towards them, ready to greet her. In front of their chairs Gilith stopped and sunk again on her knee with her right hand onver her heart, saying: "Lord Celeborn and Lady Galadriel, you called for me. I am ready to serve."

Her mission was to travel to Rivendell and deliver news of the prophecy to Lord Elrond Halfelven. Gilith carefully placed the letters with the seals of Lothlorien in her shoulder bag and thanked the Lord and Lady before leaving the court. Gilith made her way to Rivendell with haste. The roads were dangerous, but the secret Elven paths were still passable - snow on the mountains stung her cheeks and made her eyes water. She walked up the mountains, and then down, light as a feather, leaving no tracks behind, until finally she reached the approach to Imladris. With every step closer to the valley, the air became warmer and snow melted away, revealing a beautiful carpet of soft grasses and wild mountain flowers.

Gilith was met by two Rivendell Guards at the Gate of the Valley. " Welcome to Rivendell, Commander." One of the guards said removing his helm and bowing. The Elves led her though  the gates, and then down to the magnificent stables, where her horse would be looked after, then they made their way across bridges and under waterfalls, towards The Last Homely House. In the courtyard a whispering fountain was shimmering in sunlight. Gilith's boots echoed on the pave stones, while in the distance the sound of water running, song birds, and a solitary harp filled the air. Up a set of stairs, an  imposing elf dressed in blue stood. Gilith pulled back her hood and bowed. "My Lord Elrond." She said, " I am bringing you news from Lothlorien. "

" The stars do not hold secrets from us " said Elrond after reading the letters from Lothlorien. " The profecy was true, and the Elfstone is idle no more, it glimmers again in the safety of the Golden Wood. It is almost time " Gilith nodded at the elf Lord. Crafted like an eagle in flight, the Elfstone was a very precious green gem kept in Lorien. A talisman of great potency made in Gondolin by the Great Smith, then brought to Middle-earth by Mithrandir, and given to Lady Galadriel for safe-keeping. Gilith had seen Galadriel wearing the stone just above her heart.

Elrond stood up from his desk and walked to the balcony, lost in his thoughts. " Infant child so mild and fair, what does your future hold...Dunedain, mortal, Isilidur's heir," he whispered, then turned to Gilith with a smile. " Thank you, Commander, this will be all for now. Please let the Lord and Lady know we will be ready, when the time comes, and please be my guest for as long as you wish. " And with that Gilith bowed and left the study. The importance of this prophecy was yet to reveal itself, but it was obvious to Gilith, that this was a matter of great importance. Her mission was completed.

Gilith had only visited Mithlond once before, to see her father boarding a ship to Valinor. Mithlond was nestled between the mountains of Ered Luin, and though snow covered them all year round, the climate on the coast as mild, and frost was not known in the Havens of Cirdan. It was the perfect place to find refuge, to rest and recharge, so in the year 2931 T.A., after stopping in Rivendell for a few days, Gilith traveled back to the coast to spend sometime by the sea.

( Author's Note : Aragorn son of  Arathorn II and Gilraen was born on the 1st of March T.A. 2931. He was the last Chieftain of the Dúnedain and a direct descendant through many generations of Isildur, the last High King of both Arnor and Gondor. The talisman mentioned in the story is the Elfstone, also known as Elessar and  Stone of Eärendil. legend says that when the Wizards were sent from Valinor to Middle-earth in the Third Age. Gandalf gave the Elfstone to Galadriel, and remarked prophetically that she would only hold it for a little while, before she passed it to another, who will also be called Elessar.)
