Entry: Third
Dated: 16th of July
Subject: Duty and Revenge
We are so few in number, that a death of one of us is something we cannot take lightly. After the Sacking, there are so few of us Calthrian’s remaining I do not think we can start over again.
I think of all of us, Zelderan has suffered the worst. The death of Sabrial, most of the Fifth Company, his son Ravenal…And now Athenna.
*Isilorbor closes his eyes for a moment, fighting down dark clouds in his mind before carrying on*
Zelderan’s daughter was murdered, a young girl, barely sixteen years of age! I knew that girl from when she was born; she even once came over to my house with her mother to play with Lessel and Lenwenn when they were children!
My brother was storming all over Combe, fully armed and armored, seeking the man that ended his daughter’s life. I cannot say I blame him; I would have done the same if it was Lenwenn instead of Athenna.
*A shadow crosses Isilorbor’s face for a moment as he dips his quill into the ink well*
Our duty was to protect all those who could not protect themselves, that was our duty in Calth and we carried it to Eriador. Yet, why should we protect beggars, backstabbers and murderers?
*Sighs heavily and places the quill down, taking a few moments to calm himself before daring to write again*
Not all the people I have met are evil at heart, in fact a fair many of them are as helpless as a new born. I have never liked the idea of revenge; I had my taste of madness and chaos when Gilendil died…
We are Sons of Calth; we look after our brothers and their families. If we are to keep our people alive, can we really afford to give in to hate and revenge? Zelderan has been gone for days, we need to find him and soon.
*Places the quill down and stands up, placing his face in his hands and with a long sigh, brings his hands slowly down from his face. Seeing Lenwenn pass, he nods to her and is rewarded with a tight hug. Smiling and calmer, he turns back to his journal*
Not all is bad, as my next entry will explain.
*Closes the journal and turns to Lenwenn, having her puppy skip around their feet to sit down for a nice talk*
