A Battered Notebook: 14 Mede Trewsday

14 Mede Trewsday

Captain Redwood, or Rhyva as she prefers to be called, asked  to speak with me. I met her in the Town Hall where I'm now no longer having to stand guard. She asked me if I'd like to return to my regular patrol route or accept my promotion again to officer under a few conditions. I have  to admit, I almost took the patrol route. Being among the people and knowing what is going on street level has always been something I liked and it's valuable. I've got a few contacts that I trust to tell me the happenings but that would be going backwards or sideways. Whatever, it wouldn't be advancing. I can't stay a constable forever and if I turned it down I might not get it again. I told Rhyva I'd take it and agreed to her terms, mainly that being I have  to control my temper, on duty and off. She's the second person in a week that's told me that. The woman might not know me well but she certainly knows my weakness. We spoke at length about what Bree needs and what my role will be as an officer. I like her and already I have a tremendous amount of respect for the woman. She's a good listener and talks to me rather than at me, like old Stoneballs.

So now I have a spiffy new uniform and I hope I don't like a complete tool in it. It's rather long and imposing, but I'll get used to it. Rhyva's assigned me to help the new recruit Ashilyn learn the ropes and to show her the patrol routes. The girl seems keen enough but hardly looks like much and can't speak for long without squeaking. She's one of those eager beaver types and this should be about as much fun as house breaking a puppy. At least I can keep her out of trouble for one night or so and hopefully she will be given guard duty or something simple. I could not see the lass patrolling the Alley without at least two other Watchers of some size with her. We'll see. Maybe the Captain will stick Mandic with her instead, he always seems so ready to impress.

On my way to work, I saw the poster Billium put around town. My old friend has a lot of anger in his once gentle heart but I cannot say I don't agree. This is likely a reaction of a lot of folk tired of the Southron invasion, in all of it's forms. This is not the way to go about it though, I'll have to speak with him. I don't want the Watch to have to take sides if this escalates.
