8 Mede Hevensday
Caught up with Tosie, finally. After that night shift and switching back to day, I ended up sleeping and never went to see her. My head feels better though the bruise is nasty and very visible. She had sent me an interesting picture, of us in bed and a rather hilarious rendering of a pissed off Brigwald peeking in. I couldn't show my partner, Woodash what I was laughing about and it frustrated him to no end. She was on her barrel and the Pony was full, including a number of new faces, most of them foreign and ugly. One of the more particular unpleasant fellows tried to start a fight, bumping into me but I swore to myself I'd keep my temper tonight. I don't need another injury or distraction from Tosie. She seemed a bit amused by him and it caught me by surprise. I almost wonder if she was looking forward to my confronting the man. I thought she didn't want me doing that. I don't know, either way it's a better idea for me to not rise to the bait, I want my old position back even if I don't get the promotion again. I'm sick of guard duty.
We went to the Mess Hall, I have a key for after hours and found some food. We had a good time and I think strawberries are now my favorite fruit. I'll keep that sweet taste in my mouth for sometime.
After she went home, I went for a walk and passed by the Pony only to spot Gorlen and Dani, a street urchin I've known from my days patrolling the Alley. He was giving her some coin and she was protesting. I was off duty but knowing this asshole, he'd probably done something to the girl. A bunch of he said/she said crap, the girl accused him of short changing her after performing certain services and he denied it, claimed she had stolen his coin purse. I figured he would be a two timing piece of shit and Piperel will hear about it. To be honest, I don't even care if it's not the truth. If she believes it and breaks it off with him, I'll be happy. I pulled Dani aside and walked her away from the scene. We're cutting her loose and Gorlen as well as there is no real crime we can pin on either.
I stopped at the oven near the jail and bought her something to eat, skinny little kitten that she is. She was grateful though I know how far that'll take her in keeping on the right side of the law. She's under that bastard Hog, and so far there's not much we can do about it. If she doesn't make a complaint about him hitting her we can't arrest him. The constraints we have to abide by the law chafe at me sometimes. That bastard is a boil on the ass of Bree and our hands are tied until he slips up.
Onto better thoughts, I'm heading to bed, crashing out at the barracks tonight and hopefully dreaming of strawberries.
