First Journal, Second Entry - Homecoming

Finally, after a long absence, I have returned in Pelargir. This marvelous city, this giant slum, never ceases to amaze me. Nothing stays the same for long here, yet nothing ever seems to change. New taverns erupt on top of the old ones, but the filth and the misery still remain. New guards and guard captains appear, yet corruption and abuse of power are still everyday sightings. Honourless crooks, corrupted tax collectors, the unconcerned nobility, desperate peasants... This city has it all. And it is the best place for one to disappear, to start anew, to become anyone.

I cannot say I was surprised, finding a crumbled ruin where my family house once stood. It, too, has been absorbed in the constant process of never-ending change, and it will not be long until someone decides to erect a new building on top of these ruins. On top of my mother's grave.

It seems none now remembers neither Crow, or rather who Crow was in the past, nor his family. This is convenient. I can easily do what I intend to do, with no past to haunt my name or my face. Still; I will require allies in my endeavor. Trusty connections, useful acquaintances, a sprawling network. From the peasantry to the nobility, and from the guards to the sailors. But I should not be getting ahead of myself. The hunt begins this very night, and the flock will be gathered by itself. Let all people know that the Crow has opened his wings.
