Decbold has been a fool again, I finally told him it was enough and that he had to eighter adept or head back to camp. I hope I did not scare the kid too mutch, he is still young afterall.
It did however remind me of another time.
It must have been about half a month after I first entered Lothlorien. I had many encounters with the Lord and Lady, and many good talks. Amongst the Galadhrim I had become a friend.
Yet one day I was called forth to help out with a more serious matter.
Normally I just helped out with the smaller tasks like making wine, hunting meat.
But this time it was different.
Lord Celeborn called upon me to meet him up at his house. Once I arrived I saw it was a summoning of important matter. His face was stern and worried.
He told me about Mirkwood, about the Orcs that have settled upon the shores of Mirkwood.
He asked me to help out a company of elven warriors to reclaim the shores of the damned woods and after that help out to reclaim it.
I agreed to do this and the following morning I found myself settled across the river.
We made up a simple camp rather fast. The orcs had not noticed us.
The following days more elves came to join us in the fight. A new commander was brought in because the previous one sadly lost his life in a failed assault on the orc stronghold upon the hill.
This new commander was a stern and harsh elf. His orders where short and simple. ''Attack until the enemy is dead''. I saw wave after wave head towards the stronghold, yet no success were made. Eventually I myself went in too. But even that attempt was in fain. We went in with a group of twelve, and only four others and myself managed to come back.
When we did, the commander ordered us to head back in right away. I refused and eventually was send back to Lothlorien.
Lord Celeborn did not mind for the commander was known to be a stubborn one.
I guess Decbold could well be this commander.
He is a stubborn ranger but has a good heart, and is loyal to his kin.
He will make a fine commander himself one day, if he can only see the right path towards that.
