A Shameful Piece of Bread



Eborfast stepped into the kitchen entrance of the Prancing Pony, the smell of fresh bread invigorating. His stomach growled loudly, pains shooting through it causing him to feel nauseated. Picking some loose hay from his shirt, his eyes locked with the warm bread that had just been made.

 

Without thinking, he made his way over to it, breaking a giant piece off. Ebor stared at it just for a moment, as it glowed in the light from the fire, before vigorously eating the bread and swallowing with satisfaction. Looking over to his left, he saw a group of three, conversing between themselves. Hoping to not be seen, he was about to shove the other piece of bread into his mouth when his eyes locked with it.

 

He stared for a moment, realizing that he was stealing bread from the tavern. A single thought shot through his mind, "When did I begin t' steal.." Setting the piece down one of the three bumped past him, a woman. Realizing they did not work in the Pony, he moved past them into the common room, bumping into another woman, too much on his mind. Sitting himself down at a table in the dark corner of the Pony, he stared at his hands in shame.

 

"When did I begin t' steal?..."
