Moria was the name given by the Eldar to an enormous underground complex in north-western Middle-earth, comprising a vast network of tunnels, chambers, mines and huge halls or 'mansions', that ran under and ultimately through the Misty Mountains. There, for many thousands of years, lived the Dwarf clan known as the Longbeards.
The Dwarves always wanted to enter their ancient city Khazad - Dum . Elrond Halfelven did not want dwarves to enter there for their greed has made them dig too deep , and release an ancient and powerful beast within the mines . But it was not the only one .
Upon his arrival at Echad Dunann in Eregion , Tywerd saw dwarves carrying crates to their camp at Durin's door . Tywerd dismounted his horse Spirit and tied him to the pillar near him . He grabbed a crate with his both hands and began walking near a dwarf who was also carrying a crate . The crate was heavy , and on it was a small gap . Tywerd peeked through the gap and saw pickaxes stashed inside the crates . Tywerd turned to the dwarf he was walking next to and asked :
Tywerd : " What will thou do with these pickaxes , Master Dwarf ? "
Dwarf : " We will reclaim the halls of Khazad - Dum !! "
Tywerd : " Okay .. Where shall I find the leader of this expedition ? "
Dwarf : " Come with me , I'll show ya ! "
Tywerd and the dwarf gave the crates to other dwarves and then dwarf led tywerd to a before the Durin's door . Dwarf called the expedition leader and went on to his business . The expedition leader got out from his tent and asked tywerd :
Expedition Leader : " What do you want ? " with a grumpy voice .
Tywerd : " I only wish to speak to you , Master Dwarf . "
Expedition Leader : " Well here I am , Speak ! "
Tywerd : " I am here to warn you , do not enter the Mines of Moria . "
Expedition Leader : " Who are you to tell us what to do ?? "
Tywerd : " I came here with the warning of Elrond Halfelven . "
Expedition Leader : " Warning ? " the dwarf said with an angry voice . " Are you threatening us ?? "
Tywerd : " Of course not . I believe I could not explain myself well . Please li ... " the dwarf interrupted his word and began yelling at him :
Expedition Leader : " I will not take orders from a pointy ears . The expedition shall continue ! "
No matter what tywerd said the expedition leader did not listen to him , the dwarf grabbed his axe and he stormed out from the conversation . By the time tywerd came to Eregion he saw that dwarves were too close to enter Khazad - Dum . Tywerd hoped to change their minds , but tomorrow . He had taken a long journey from Bree to Misty Mountains . And witout any stop he came to Eregion , so he went to woods . He gathered a couple of logs to make a campfire , he rubbed two stones together and made fire . He prepared his bedroll and began sleeping .
The next morning he woke up to dwarf cheers . He quickly gleaned his bedroll and placed it on to the back of his backpack . The voices of dwarves were coming from the mining site . Tywerd ran to the High rocks and climbed on one . He saw a big hole in Durin's Door . It appeared that dwarves finally succeeded in their expedition .
When Tywerd arrived at Durin's Door , the dwarves were about to enter the mines of moria . The sun went down and it became night . The darkness fell upon the pool near the westgate of moria . Strange voices came within the pool . Tentacles of a mighty beast appeared within the pool . One of the tentacles grabbed a dwarf and pulled him deep inside the pool . Dwarves with their pickaxes began hitting the tentacles with all their power , but tentacles were not harmed a bit . At that moment tywerd drew his sword and cut a tentacle . He began cutting the tentacles one by one . The tentacles were grabbing dwarves and throwing them to the other side of the pool . One of the dwarves yelled at another dwarf " Go ! Get help ! " . The dwarf ran to the camp site at Echad Dunann and brought more dwarves with him . It was useless , more tentacles kept coming and coming within the pool . Tywerd knew it was impossible to defeat the beast , so he yelled the dwarves around him :
" IN TO THE MINES ! "
