True Warriors

Plinnlim enjoyed the wind blowing right into her face, the scent coming from the trees, the cold night air, the stars shining above her - and she simply could not get herself to go home yet. Her insides were still stirring from the encounter earlier. She had just been on an errand to Lord Elrond's house, in front of which some elves were gathered. She recognised one of them she had seen before, and when heading back she stopped to say suilad. And to be honest, she really wanted to get a closer look on that fabulous bow he was carrying.

Moments later, she found herself surrounded by the most impressive warriors she had ever seen. While fighting in the Lone-lands, she had thought of herself as a great warrior; but standing next to these experienced elves she felt like a tiny blade of grass. And it was not only their impressive armour, no; their posture and their looks alone were awe-inspiring. Still they talked to her in a kind and friendly manner and it turned out they belonged to this Warband her parents had only whispered about; even warned her that they were dangerous company. Now, but how could it be dangerous to be fighting side by side with experienced elves? It was much less dangerous than having no one to watch your back.

She gathered some more wood - a wonderful excuse to stay outside some more - and listened to the sounds of the night. A tawny owl was calling from a tree to her left, and two lynxes were having a quarrel somewhere close by. She smiled and thought that the wilderness was exactly where she liked to be, much more than in a well-tended garden. Although it was nice to know that the beautiful Imladris was just a short walk away.
