The road stretched endlessly before her, beaten and dry beneath the early summer sun. Deorla walked—her boots scuffed, legs sore, cloak tight around her frame. She had no horse anymore.

But she was used to walking.

The land itself seemed at peace now. She saw no riders, no merchants, no enemy scouts. Even the wind was calm. Fields rolled on her left and right, broken only by distant fences or rotted wagon wheels half-swallowed by tall grass. For the first time in weeks, there was no urgency behind her steps.

Now I will tell you what happened next.¹

So, me and Princess Éowyn and Mr Elessar and all the Rangers and hobbits had just arrived at Isengard, where the army of Rohan were besieging the wicked White Wizard Aruman,² and found out that the King had been poisoned, which was quite bad.

'Closure, nésa,' Eregiel answered. 'I want to see for myself that Isengard is truly overthrown. Thenafter shall my mind find peace.'

'You will receive no argument from me, nésa,' her sister replied.

All stories have a beginning and this is such a begin. If you are to know more about Theogorn, you have to look no further, for this is his first chapter. Many ages have past and many deeds are done: These by the great lords of the Undying lands and the mighty elves of the first age, as well the high men of westernesse. But the lesser heroes are forgotten: yes, I said lesser heroes indeed. Those whoms deeds are too small to be remembered, but too great to be forgotten.
