Background

Veryacano (Verya-: (Q) Bold, Brave Káno- or Cáno-: (Q) Commander or Chieftain)is a Noldor elf of Aman. He comes from a family sworn to protect princes of Noldor. He and his brother came to Middle Earth from the undying lands with the Host of Féanor in the first age. They fought in ''Dagor Nuin-Giliath'' against the army of Morgoth for the first time. Their father was killed by Balrog whips, as he desperately tried to go to Féanor's aid. After the battle, Veryacáno grieved for the death of his father and Féanor. As Féanor's sons swore the oath that brought doom upon their kin, Veryacano swore to be loyal to his father's oath. He followed Tall Maedhros and served him with loyalty. His brother Felogar chose to follow Finrod, and went to Nargothrond. The brothers were seperated...

When Morgoth broke the siege of Angmar in ''Dagor-Bragollach'', Veryacano was swept away with the rest of Noldor. He was still young and eager to prove himself and he had his chance in the fighting that took years. He showed his true quality in combat when he rallied many retreating allies and helped hold the line against overwhelming number of enemies in Himring. His valour was recognized by Maedhros and he promoted him to sergeant. When Maedhros Union was formed, Finrod's folk came to the aid of Maedhros under command of Gwindor. Veryacano expected his brother to be among them, but shortly afterward, he recieved news that Felogar had chosen to stay in Nargothrond. Veryacano was then dissappointed with his brother in the eve of battle and the seeds of seperation were sewn between the brothers. In battle, Veryacano fought in Maedhros' army in Nírnaeth Arnoediad. He served as a sergeant in a regiment of vanguards at the very front. After brutal fighting in the shadow of Thangorodrim, most of his regiment was slain in battle along with the commanding officers. Veryacáno took the command and he led the remaining men to the safety of the rear as they were replaced by fresh troops. He watched the ongoing battle and he witnessed the coming of Great Dragon Glaurung from the pits of Angband, failure of their army to link up with Fingon and Turgon, and the betrayal of the easterlings just off his position. They put all the easterlings to the sword right there, but all hope of victory was lost. Veryacano and his company cut an escape route for Féanor's sons and protected them from harm. They fled to Amon Ereb, where they watched the dwarves hold off the mighty dragon Glaurung. Thousands laid dead behind them as they fled the battlefield. The Union had failed...

After years of continuous fighting in Northern Beleriand and defeat in Nírnaeth Arnoediad, Veryacano was weary of battle. In the next years, he visited his brother Felogar who resided in Nargothrond. Gray clouds were now between the brothers and before he left, Veryacáno asked his brother to come north with him, but Felogar would not accept. He was comfortable well away from the main body of fighting. Veryacano then left for north, to seek Feanor's sons once again. 5 years after his departure, Nargothrond was sacked and destroyed by Glaurung. Felogar was then homeless, and would seek Veryacano. Brothers became united again. It was at this time that Felogar realized the cruel intentions of Feanor's sons. They were planning to sack Doriath, and claim the Silmarils. Felogar knew Veryacano would not abandon his oath and he would follow them. Felogar came up with a cunning plan to stop Veryacano. He arranged a hunting party and with false promises of good hunting and scouting the orc camps under order of his captain, he convinced Veryacano to come along. The hunting party swept the brothers off to advantures that took several weeks. Once they were back, Maedhros and sons of Feanor had already left for Doriath. Then Veryacáno knew that his brother had orchestrated it all and he was furious with Felogar. Veryacano would have followed Maedhros unwillingly into Doriath, but now partly in his heart he felt glad.

Beleriand was torn apart and elves estranged to each other, brothers were like brown leaves in the wind, swept about Beleriand. After the War of Wrath, brothers made their way to Lindon and were greeted by Gil-Galad. They lived peacfully in the beginning of the second age in Gil-Galad's kingdom. Arda was changed and they were in unfamiliar lands. They often travelled to Eregion and became friends with the elves and dwarves there. Veryacáno had not forgotten the sacrifice dwarves made for them in Nírnaeth Arnoediad. Felogar despised them, but Veryacáno said words of honor to them and loved their great halls of Dwarrowdelf. When open war broke out once again, they served the High King of Noldor Gil-Galad and fought against Sauron. Veryacáno became one of Gil-Galad's guardians and Felogar fought alongside Malgalad, Lord of Lorien. Although they fought in seperate ranks, both brothers survived the war of the Last Alliance. With Gil-Galad slain and Sauron defeated, brothers went back to Eriador. They lived seperately there since. Veryacáno stayed in Lindon in peace and joined Bar-En Vanimar while Felogar travelled with Elrond's sons Elladan and Elrohir. He befriended the Rangers of North and protected the remains of the ancient kingdom of Arnor. His love for trees and growing things was great thus, he swore an oath to protect them from the darkness. It was his time to prevail and fame of his wisdom was spread through Eriador. He became the master of a faithful band of travellers. This was when he met Anglachelm, Lord of Vanimar and swore oaths of alliance with him. Through time and perhaps work of another evil force, the bonds that kept his band together weakened, and his company was disbanded after long years. Now they both serve Anglachelm of Vanimar, but a terrible event seperates the brothers, but that story is not told here. Veryacáno and Felogar seem to be together but seperated forever...
