Talsakalthor was born in Umbar, and that was giving him little options for career. People there, though ditant descandant of Numenorians are dedicated mostly to one proffesion, Piracy.
Life in a haven of Umbar is not an easy one, you either develop low life instincts and get rid of conscience or die by the hand of those that learned it faster.
Sakalthor part of his name is numenorean word for Son of the Coast, but also indicates that his parents were at least educated enough to know it, but he still ended as crew of pirate ship.
