Over the course of a few weeks, a few villagers and farmers from Combe bring to Bree a contagious and catchy jig.
A small trend is begun, as the simple piece is then played for its fifteen minutes of fame in every tavern of Bree-land. It is even heard to be hummed by those daring to break the grim atmosphere of the Forsaken Inn, and as far west as Buckland.
"Within Bree grow the gremlins
guilty pleasures of the feeble.
They revel in their fiery spread,
a plague of hungry weevils!
These beasties are a pestilence,
no stopping once they start.
You see, once you've caught gremlins
they will get into your heart!
It starts with close range contact
like a word, a joke or kiss.
Then like sheep-pox, oh how
the little gremlins will persist!
Mean spirited are they, oh yes,
these sneaky lurking creatures.
Just like the flea upon the dog they
suck good folk like leeches!
You can tell if someone
has a gremlin infestation.
The first sign of a blighted heart
is rumours of sensation.
Smirking snark and sneering snide
these rumours will be spoken.
Perverse and petty, pit your pride!
Behind the back in token.
The second sign is allergy.
Reactions, poor, to truth,
and bald faced lies to cover
like a gassy cloud, uncouth.
Fragile little snowflakes
will the gremlin-flicted seem.
Victims of their enemies
that spew in wake, like streams!
Suspect you've caught the gremlins?
There is something you can do.
Help to stop the cycle,
restoring hope for me and you!
Lesson one is walk away
from bitter immaturity.
Lesson two is think good thoughts
to fight your insecurity.
Goodly folk are not always those
the fairest to behold.
Beware the scornful sweet tongue,
beware the cruelty, bold!
Think the best of others
before leaping to assumption.
Then, this gremlin season
we can drop the rotten pumpkins!
Let this be the year that Bree
is gremlin-free, sublime!
And may the next be wholesome with
companionship, divine!"
