Part 1
The winter came, with frosted bite
And thick the falling snow
Around the land all turned to white
So cold the wind did blow
Hobbits froze in the cold sunshine
Wolves howled beyond the Brandywine
The coldest day that darkest year
The Brandywine did freeze
From Brandywood, the wolves appeared
From under frosted trees
At the river the wolves did bay
In howling packs they crossed this way
Across the fields the wolves did run
To Binbole Wood they made
The red glow of the setting sun
Did slowly start to fade
As hobbits got ready for bed
Unaware of the wolven dread
Howling wolves in the icy woods
Whilst the sunset red it glows
Too late to turn and run now
They'll follow your tracks in the snow
Yes, they'll follow your tracks in the snow
A lad and lass out for a stroll
They braved the winter snow
But howls of wolves it stopped their walk
And they looked down below
In a valley they saw the tracks
And the wild-running wolven pack
The couple grabbed each other's hands
No time to stand and stare
They turned and ran towards Buckland
To warn the hobbits there
Time to sound out the Buckland horn
The hobbits of the Shire to warn
From East to West the horns did call
And folks were roused from bed
It woke the hobbits, one and all
To warn of strife ahead
"Grab your axes", called the Crier,
"Rampaging wolves now cross the Shire"
Howling wolves in the icy woods
Whilst the sunset red it glows
Too late to turn and run now
They'll follow your tracks in the snow
Yes, they'll follow your tracks in the snow
They gathered all who they could find
The lad he led the way
The lass refused to stay behind
So she came too that day
Together they marched down the road
Shivering from fear and from cold
The wolves attacked on many farms
And pigs and sheep lay dead
But yet more folk heard the alarm
And got up from their beds
Whilst other hobbits locked their doors
Against the scratching of wolf claws
The hobbit group soon found the tracks
And followed them out West
They came across the wolven pack
No time to stop for rest
It was time now to make a fight
White snow to become red that night
Part 2
The lad he gave a mighty roar
As wolves and hobbits clashed
The snarling teeth, and long sharp claws
The wolves they snapped and slashed
Arms were scratched as hobbits were bit
But clubs were swung, and wolves were hit
And in the fight, the lass did slip
A wolf leapt at her head
The lad he jumped infront of it
The wolf hit him instead
Together they fell on the ground
And blood was splattered all around
And then they lay, in bloodied snow
Unmoving in a ditch
The lass distraught, her tears flowed
But then she saw him twitch
Although the lad was cut and bled
The lad did live, the wolf was dead!
Howling wolves in the icy woods
Whilst the sunset red it glows
Too late to turn and run now
They'll follow your tracks in the snow
Yes, they'll follow your tracks in the snow
The lad and lass rejoined the fight
The night was nearly through
Although the wolves could all still bite
Their numbers were now few
And soon many wolves turned to flee
The hobbits could sense victory
And as the sun did rise up high
The wolves were mostly gone
The hobbits all could give a sigh
That night had been so long
The lad and lass were cheered and praised
Their quick thinking had saved the day!
The Winter soon did start to ease
The snow did start to melt
All wolves were chased out from the trees
And hunted for their pelts
Lad and lass became man and wife
And would stroll safely all thier life
Howling wolves return to the woods
Whilst the sunrise gold it glows
See the wolves turn and run now
They'll disappear along with the snow
Yes, they'll disappear along with the snow
Now do take heed, some wolves remain
In fields and under trees
And still they wait to strike again
Should the Brandywine freeze
But for now just enjoy the Shire
Leave wolves for stories by the fire!
