Tîn Gilith - The Valley Of Gold

On her way to the gates, Gilith would pass the statues of Amroth and Nimrodel every day, and would often stop for a few moments, looking intensly at Nimrodel's face, in many ways so similar to her mother's face. The Silvan Elves disliked outsiders, and when the Sindar and Noldor came to The Golden Woods, many Silvan openly showed their distaste for the newcomers and their foreign ways.

Despite falling in love with the Sinda elf Amroth, Nimrodel refused to marry him, then agreed but escaped, and vanished, leaving Amroth with a broken heart and leading him to his own death. Why were the Silvan Elves so obtuse and insular? Gilith disliked these Silvan traits, so prevalent in her own mother. Over the years her father had learned to live with his wife's pride and prejudice out of love and devotion for her, but with every passing day, Gilith's parents grew more and more distant.

Gilith would often dream of having a brother or a sister- this would remain an unfulfilled wish, as her parents eventually became to live separate lives. Her mother Nessithil  grew wary of the etiquette and expectation of the Royal Court. One day Gilith came home from her training and her mother was gone without a word for her or her father.

Gilindir would never truly recover, but his first duty was to his daughter Gilith and The Lord and Lady. Every night he would sit in his garden with his heart filled with sorrow about his lost love. Gilith had seen him crying at night, but there was nothing she could do for him, other than making him proud.

Knowing what love and prejudice did to Amroth and Nimrodel and to her own parents, Gilith grew wary of feelings and deep emotions. Despite her youth and beauty, she would avoid social events if possible. There was no place in her life for a broken heart. Gilith would instead spend her free time in the gardens, tending flowers, planting seedlings, and caring for the trees. She would enjoy time alone by the stream, doing her laundry; she would sit and listen to the birds songs at sunset. Her life was dedicated to serve and to her regiment.

After ten years as a Sentinel in the Regiment of the Gate she was promoted to the rank of Warden and moved to the Regiment of the Mallorn Trees, so called because its members are strong and unyielding, bold and fearless, just like the trees. In her new role Gilith would patrol within and just without Lothlorien's borders, keeping them clean of undesirables and worse, leading aright those travelers that had strayed too near the Valley of Gold.
