Captain's Quick Report: Die Bunten Voegel visit Bree
There is something fantastic in feeling which the Die Bunten Voegel performing today brought to my heart -- as often such musical passion does when in the presence of such outstanding bands near and far. Their songs and style truly appear of a life meant for story-telling and music; infused with the joy of performance and engaging within themselves and unto the audience before them on the stage provided -- travelling from town to town, village to village, foreign lands and beyond to ply their trade... and their masterful talents.
On Scholar's Walk in Bree did they perform, a location different from the usual bands visiting here in town from this ol' Bree Captain's experience. A most interesting crowd did assemble from races representing all the Free Peoples, and many seemed to certainly have come from very exotic lands indeed in support of this musical troupe; several different languages I was not familiar with were regularly being spoken, and enthusiastic shouts rendered into the air during numerous moments of the Die Bunten Voegel's lively songs, of which there were many!
Their performance today would not be the first time I witness their musical endeavors; months ago they visited our lands to perform at the Solidarity Fayre and Concert 'Archet Aid' -- a masterful event by Master Grymrock and his kin which brought together many other bands to the settlement of Archet, still recovering from previous disaster. And before that, just a few months further back -- the Die Bunten Voegel also appeared in the homesteads of Oldfurlong, at an event known as the OAKS (Oldfurlong Amazing Koncert Series) organized monthly by a Hobbit of the Shire named Miss Acorne. That particular performance was even rumoured to be recorded in such a mystical way you could watch and listen to the performance through the mind of someone who was there! Truly amazing what some of these 'moving' drawings can convey by talented artists of our time! Hohoho!
Many of the songs, lyrics, and outright delightful performance these Die Bunten Voegel brought to Bree today was simply outstanding to behold for their story-telling through music, and the very nature of the word 'troubadours' and 'trobairitz' is passionately deserved upon this travelling troupe. With impeccable timing to the music, several band members often juggle, toss feathers in moving display, breathe fire from torches, and dance with a stunningly seamless transition from one to another -- it tells of great practice and dedication to their craft honed many times. Time again did songs invoke great cheers from the crowd -- one even involved dancing all the different styles of dance of Men, Hobbits, Dwarves, and Elves alike. Dwarves were invited onto the stage to dance for one song; another melody was reminiscent of a time with an activity known as 'Fireworks in Bree' every year; and yet another tune had everyone follow one of the band members in a long walk around the area while the band played a wedding song of sorts! There was even something special near the end in which they included all the audience to walk forth upon the stage; to join in circle together as they concluded the magnificent concert upon Scholar's Walk this day.
The rough sketchings and drawings I will attach to this report may give you an idea of what their presence in Bree today was like -- but it cannot be said enough upon my part that to better experience the atmosphere of such musicians as these in Middle-earth... you must be able to hear their music -- and see them perform alongside their music in such a way that stir the audience to participate upon a manner these Die Bunten Voegel thrive with most excellence. That rumoured 'moving drawing' by one of the artists known to Master Grymrock's circle would be a deserving start if one wanted to get a feel for one of the past performances of the Die Bunten Voegel!
Another important matter quickly caught my attention afterwards and so it was with some urgent haste that I departed elsewhere as necessary, with little time to say farewells and congratulate the band -- but if this old Bree Captain may be permitted;
To the Die Bunten Voegel do I graciously thank for visiting our lands and people -- especially here in Bree-town. Your talents -- as often grand musicians and story-tellers do -- sweep folk like myself to live in a different world for a time, and to experience even for just a few hours, something deeply enjoyable and wondrous.

Additional thanks is also deserved of the many advertising posters which appeared a few weeks before today's concert gathering -- detailing this event and encouraging folk to attend -- which I believe Miss Acorne was responsible for writing. Whom, speaking of which, she also has submitted the details for the next OAKS this month for the local events section, which previously is seen in the Bramblebury Gazette most times. As her article in the Bramblebury Gazette also mentioned -- the featured musicians will be none other than The Aleford Band, three Hobbits with very good advertising posters in several places about their music and group. I do hope to my schedule will work out in favor of making the journey to attend their work!
And on that topic for a few more moments, I've also stumbled upon some additional parchments and posters for the Die Bunten Voegel themselves. Most seemed to be in their own native tongue and speech, but a few rare ones seemed to be mildly translated into something I could understand. It was quite interesting to investigate.
But before this Month is over there will be plenty more eventful occasions to consider for the schedule! Both articles seen in the Shire's Bramblebury Gazette and local event postings around Bree-town confirm the lively Evendim Hillbillies will be putting on a performance at the next Bird and Baby Yard Party. Another wonderful band a few days later will be the Polnolunie, led by a decent fellow known as Master Gerhalt -- taking to the stage just outside the Prancing Pony in Bree. On the same day there's news from afar that detail the settlement of Bramblebury opening a new library and crafting centre. That must be welcome tidings indeed!
