Captain's Quick Report: The Grand Journey Home: Ost Guruth to Rivendell

Slightly messy!  Or so that is how things began when preparing myself to depart from Ost Guruth to further complete a new errand the Bree Captain's Guild tasked me with doing -- a delivery of sorts to the fabled 'Valley of Imladris', where the Guild has a contact there in need of additional funds.

But by the fates above!  Quite the scene those Hobbits left behind in Ost Guruth where they were quartered!  Some still-good fried mushrooms and even some sort of Bullroarer Took brew still wrapped for the journey on the road, but still sitting on beds, forgotten!  There was even a few lanterns and a full keg of hobbit ale left behind!  I spent some time gathering these up and preparing to be on my way from Ost Guruth -- perhaps, I had thought; maybe we might catch up to that company of Hobbits, whom already had left a few hours earlier that evening.  Something about a grand plan to avoid nasties on the road, by travelling at night -- so the Eglain claim to have heard the halflings confidently declare as they passed by, and out, of Ost Guruth back onto the Great East Road.

Eventually at the borders between the Lone-Lands and the Trollshaws, did I catch up with my treasure-laden steed, to see the Hobbit group had just finished resting by a campfire and were setting out on their way again into the woodlands of this forested land in which Rivendell somewhere lies.  There was barely any need for words -- with such a stout and strong group of Hobbits and their friends, it was obvious a step that this ol' Bree Captain would join them on the journey through -- surely as far as I travel with them, would my delivery to this fabled Valley be made true; safe and sound!  Strength in numbers they say, no matter how small, or tall!

And what detours and sights did I see while accompanying them!  Strange creatures turned to stone that I had never known to be, just tucked a little ways from the main road, and wonderful sights of wooded valleys, forests, and even mountains at many points along the journey!

Why, even Elves made an appearance just past the midway mark of our travels, and from there onwards was it a merry, if not perplexing experience perhaps for some of the Elves, to see Hobbits go about their way with the Elven sorts joining along the good cheer and warm hearts all around.  All were quite safe even more so from then on -- well perhaps except the fish at the famous Ford of Bruinen... when the Hobbits marched forward to the river with Elves close behind, little chance did any fish stand when all the Halflings lined up, orderly as you can imagine, and matter-of-factly started dipping their fishing lines right into the waters for their well-deserved snack break, I think they may have told the Elves.

And then further up, and onwards, did this large company now traverse -- into what is known as the High Moors.  Another stop at the top with a campfire to rest shortly, and then Elves and Hobbits (and the few of us of the Race of Man), continued on -- until at long last, the mighty sight of Rivendell Valley opened up between the rocks, and the path leading down gave way to great Elven construct and buildings in the distance, nestled kindly between the colorful foliage of the valley's trees.

What an outstanding journey this was, all in all!  I could not have asked for a better group to happen along, safe and well-cared for was every member of the travelling group, plenty of food and break stops as befits Hobbit kind, and finally my task to deliver that crate of gold upon my horse was met with good success, and another business on behalf of the Bree Captain's Guild is finished!

Now, time to rest well and see where next the Bree Captain's Guild might send me.  I've been lucky to have had Guild business taking me alongside the same path these Hobbits on their quest to Enedwaith (or Everwait, as they have been calling it regularly), but surely that luck won't last, will it?  The Trollshaws mark the dangerous border of my assigned boundaries the Guild has so far confirmed, in relation to the area of operations in Middle-earth which I have been granted permission to traverse and carry out business, as a travelling representative of the Bree Captain's Guild.  Before I left to find lodgings, I overheard the next leg of these Hobbits' journey to Enedwaith will take them next from Rivendell to Echad Dunann, someplace southwards in the lands of Eregion.  An interesting place I have heard of, but surely... the Bree Captain's Guild won't have any business there to send me towards, will they?  Time will tell, I suppose!  Hohoho!

I close this early report for the Archives, right here in Rivendell, to search out a spot to have a meal and enjoy the sights for some time.  And then there are all these draft sketchings and colorings to sift through too, and attach to this report!  Lots to be done!

Signed,

Overview Collection

Note from Naismithea: Before proceeding onwards with viewing the following sketches, drawings and paintings, do note, dear Reader, that there are many to peruse!  With luck, venture forth only at your own risk, and with plentiful time on yours hands, and the willing spirit!  Also, while it may appear many of the pictures fully capture some stories or conversations given during the event, line for line -- there is in reality many parts not recorded by any of my drawings or sketches, and so do take care in understanding that what you may see in these collections are not a complete and full recording of the stories spoken or conversations seen!  Though they should give you a hearty idea!

(( Disclaimer: Hello folks, I'd like to caution you that taking a look at the embedded slideshows coming up below will likely not go too well if your in a hurry, and hoping to just get a 'general gander' at what the event was like.  The 'Overview Collection' above is more suited for that!

Viewing the albums embedded below is more geared for those folks looking to get a /slightly/ more play-by-play spirit of how things unfolded.  In fact, I only recommend having a browse through if for some reason, you have an urge to well... just look at a lot and lot of screenshots -- many of the shot angles/perspectives being repeated in other screenshots but at different times during the event, etc!  Thanks for reading. ))
