Captain's Quick Report: Farmer's Market (Grenrill Village Anniversary Festival)
The second day of celebrations for the Grenrill Village Anniversary Festival was the Farmer's Market event, in Buckland, this very day. Though I had paid for temporary lodgings to stay in Buckland for the night after yesterday's Opening Ceremony and Fishing Party, it became apparent while awakening late this morning that it would be quite the adventure to find the location of the market itself!
With luck, a helpful Missus Hobbit by the name of Lothla was most in kind in taking time out of her fishing business to aid in walking me to the location the Farmer's Market was being held at within Buckland's bounds. It happened to be quite far in the back of all of Buckland, but was quite a pleasant and choice location.
Upon arrival, it was with some embarrassment that my stomach did rumble and the calling offers for sale of food and the like happened to reach my ears. Even more shameful was that when I attempted payment for the order of food, it appears the vendor, Missus Brundela did not receive the twenty-silver coins owed to her from my wallet, and further embarrassment was had on my part. Curse the silly fates above that somehow, by magic and trickery, whisk away the coins I take out with my own hand to make purchases with others so often -- and at the end of trades, so often grin down at me and almost seemingly chortle 'You cannot perform that action, only VIPs and Subscribers can do that'. What should that ever mean I don't know, but 'tis very silly I say!
To my most thankful joy did Master Silon rescue this old Bree Captain then, and with a warm hobbit-like chuckle, offered to help pay the dues owed by me to Missus Brundela of The Northern Garrison. I thanked him most heartily and offered some of the food his coin had helped paid for, which, to my relief, he accepted immediately without any delay.
I was later able to send forth a select collection of items to Missus Brundela that would be near equal or more to the sum of coin I owed her, despite Master Silon's help in preventing me from being unduly sunk into further trouble had one of the other Northern Garrison members on duty, a Master Elf named Mattharan, decided to act more harshly upon what seemed like a swindling of one of his kin at the Farmer's Market celebrations. Dear me, I'll have to take this as a lesson to be more careful upon future occasions, with this seemingly curse continuing to haunt me now and then whenever I try to pay coin in trades, or mail, for that matter!
But about the Farmer's Market itself perhaps we might turn our attention to, more important than silly mishaps on a Bree Captain's part. It was again a humble gathering of sorts, but successful it was still, with quite a varied number of onlookers, and other travellers being present throughout, making purchases of their own, and browsing the wares the vendors of The Northern Garrison and Grenrill Village were offering for sale.
And as with any gathering of good folk, at any market worth it's silver, there was soon some music and dancing to be had between the buying and selling; including melodies from a Missus Hobbit Aradelia, a Master Elf Nindhelthol, and even Master Silon! While perhaps not as planned or organized as dedicated concerts and musical gatherings I have attended elsewhere, it most warmly contributed to the friendly spirit of the Farmer's Market today, as the sun beamed down on our small but humble gathering of folk in celebration of Grenrill Village's Anniversary Festival.
With the festival activities continuing next week on the 18th and 19th of this Month, inside the bounds of Grenrill Village itself, I should end this early report here, and retire for the day. In time, a more full and concise report from my perspective of today's celebrations at the Farmer's Market in Buckland should follow at some point in the future, when circumstances find themselves appropriate.
P.S.
The intriguing search for singing badgers amongst the wilds of Bindbole Wood in the Shire-bounds will also be taking place next on the 19th of the Month. To think if you, Master Reader, have any sort of interest in the cultured traditions of Hobbit springtime, could claim to have seen wild badgers that sing and play instruments! Though celebratory activities continue that day in the vein of Grenrill Village's Anniversary Festival in Bree-land, this potential of springtime badgers playing music amongst the Shire-folk is a most tempting event for a curious Bree Captain to consider.
