The Book
Journal Entry 1
Well, I had decided a bit ago to become… well, more active in the Shire, with other hobbits and such. And with my love for music, riddles and poems I thought; why don’t I start to write more of those?
So, I got the Brambleburry Gazette, and found a section in the archives with poem lessons by Simbo Rumblebelly! Well I had of course heard of Master Simbo Rumblebelly, he is a Shire renowned poet… I decided to take a look at it! How grand it is!
So I sat down tonight, this fine Wednesday night, and opened up my Book, found an empty page, and began to write what his lessons told me to…
Class 1 – Get into the Rhythm
They say that the ‘stress’ of the word is most important… but I found it very hard to find whether or not the stress of the word is a #da# or a #Dum#! But I do hope I did well…
Exercise 1 – Come up with a two line poem. It doesn’t have to rhyme, but the rhythm of each line must consist of five lots of “da-Dum”s.
#da-Dum-da-Dum-da-Dum-da-Dum-da-Dum#
Here is the poem I came up with after a lot of careful thought…
#A CHAIR and TA-ble, HOB-its EAT and DRINK#
#and FINe-ally , NIGHT has COME, we GO and SLEEP#
Exercise 2 – Come up with two separate lines. The first one should have a “Tum-ti-Tum-ti-Tum-ti” rhythm. The second one should have a “da-da-Dum-da-da-Dum” rhythm.
Here is the second poem I came up with then… a bit easier, actually!
#LOVE-ly HOB-bits DANCE-ing#
#They are DANCE-ing to have FUN#
Exercise 3 – Come up with two separate lines. The first one should have a “da-Dum-da-Dum-da-da-da-Dum” rhythm. The second one should have a “Dum-da-da-Dum-da-Dum-da-Dum” rhythm.
This one was much more challenging!
#The LUTE, the MUSE-ic and the FOOD#
#BUT may we UN-der-STAND that NIGHT is OVER#
My, how much fun is poetry! I should write a few!
