The men were nothing to him, beasts for the slaughter, ants beneath his boot, a disease to be eradicated. His sword in hand, Arenborn Kolten marched forward slowly, with very little care to protect himself as he cut through them. Twenty years ago he might have considered showing mercy. Not today, not in this narrow corridor, not after what they had done.

Arenborn fought with a ferocity that he had previously never displayed, or would ever display again. He fought with such wanton savagery that his attackers fell back in dismay from his onslaught. He was not a man on the defensive, he was a man seeking one thing. Death.

That is all it was, the gap between Narys and Taraborn, but for all it mattered it could have been the Belegaer. He lay there, awake deep in the night, looking at her sleeping form with blurry eyes as he tries to make sense of the storm of emotions within himself.
