Alanaa was always a happy child. From the day she was born, her mother always said she was an easy baby, easy toddler, easy teenager, and easy daughter. She grew up very close to her mother while her sister, Nettie always seemed to be closer to their father. Often she learned how to sew, knit, spin wool, cook, clean, and tend to the needs of others from her mother which proved very useful when she married later on in life. As children she and her sister were close, only being four years apart in age. Nettie was the creative one who always brought her sister on imaginative adventures as the played on Trestlespan or near the water under their mother's supervision while washing clothes. When they began to grow older, Nettie took to the sheep and dogs their father owned while Alanaa took to the more proper hobbies a woman would have.
When Alanaa turned twenty, she married Anta Cardoon, who in her mind was the love of her life. Together they had one child who Alanaa named after her mother, Elanor. However, shortly after Elanor's birth, the child passed away leaving Alanaa and Anta devistated. Their marriage suffered for a short time before they rebonded and tried for another child. However, the second child never came for their home was attacked in a raid.
Anta fought against the raid, but he was not able to save their home from burning down. Alanaa ended up moving in with her mother and sister into their uncle's home. This left many people crammed into one small space and forced Alanaa and Nettie to share a single bedroll. There was not enough space for Anta as he deemed it even though they insisted he could stay. Instead he claimed he needed to travel up in to North Downs and help the refugees get back to Trestlebridge. He claimed it was his duty as a guardsmen, thus he said goodbye to his wife and road out with several other guards. Alanaa was happy to not be alone at nights though now that her husband road off into danger. But slowly each night her sister, Nettie, began disappearing at night leaving Alanaa alone in the bedroll and concerned for her sister's absence until the day Nettie and their mother blew up in a fight causing Nettie to disappear from their bedroll completely. Never before had Alanaa had to sleep alone without her husband or her sister by her side.
