Whether the name of his clan came from the ancestral ability to master up the power of the runes of the storm, or from the roaring sound they produce when they drink too much ale (which actually happens often) it is not clear.

What is clear is the reason why many years ago Thodviddhil Thundertongue left the Halls of Iron Hills, where he was born, to go west: Khazad-Dum, the dream of every Longbeard! And since he is a smith,Thodviddhil’s own dream was to find the Heart of Fire, the secret forge hidden inside Khazad-Dum.

In order to prepare an expedition he was sent as a scholar by his uncle Thormoth Thundertongue to study ancien books in Thorin’s Gate, where he eventually met Tharkun. He talked long with the wizard about the secret ways of Khazad-Dum, because he thoughts Tharkun could be the only one to help the dwarves against Durin’s Bane, just as he did once with Thorin himself against Smaug.

But now the time has come: the expedition is almost at the gate of Kazad-Dum and Thodviddhil must hurry on Tharkun footsteps  if he want to join his cousin Thormot at their meeting in Durin’s Threshold…
