'At the Sign of the Prancing Pony' (Every Friday; 2:00 & 7:00 PM)

The smell of pipeweed and the sound of merry laughter drifts from the open door of the Inn of the Prancing Pony. It is a Highday, and like every Highday, Barliman Butterbur has opened his  common room to guests from lands near and far to sample his beer in exchange for coin, conversation, and a promise 'not to go up into thin air, thank you very much!'

This week's (January 24, 2025) hook:

Barliman is off his feet! Ever forgetful, the innkeeper failed to hang the “Common Room of the Prancing Pony is closed this Highday” sign on his door—for indeed Mr. Butterbur had no intention of re-opening the common room today—and guests have entered the Pony in droves. Baking pies in slippers and pouring beer in night caps, Barliman, Nob, and even the ostler Bob are doing their utmost to ensure that business runs as usual—and that their guests remain fed and quenched.

Yet it is clear that the three are overwhelmed and in need of a helping hand or two; Barliman, so fretted with labour, seems to have forgotten entirely his anxiety of previous weeks—his fear that brigands may hold up the Pony and rob him blind again or worse, kill him. It is a fear that Barliman Butterbur is perhaps unwise to forget. For today the common-room is thick with whispers of brigands: rumours of camps outside the hedge-wall, of cruel fires that burn in the night and crueler voices along the Greenway, and of arrows sharp, keen to hit any man or hobbit fat with cash….

What, Where, and When

‘At the Sign of the Prancing Pony’ is a weekly story-based roleplay event series held every Friday at 2:00 and 7:00 PM server-time which seeks to bring the community together under the roof of LOTRO’s Prancing Pony, with the event being relocated to an inn or tavern of the Roleplayers of Laurelin's Discord server’s community’s choice on the last Friday of every month.

Each event will include a unique story “hook”, and will be broken into two sessions or timeslots: an earlier session for EU players will begin at 2:00 PM server-time and a later session for NA players will begin at 7:00 PM server-time. It is possible and even likely that these sessions will overlap with each other!

Please note that these events will not feature a DM: you are free to run with the weekly hook as you choose, and to come as early or as late as you’d like.

Why

While roleplay in the Prancing Pony is nothing new, the intention of this event is to offer: 1) disparate members of the RP community a single time and place for RP, 2) new or inexperienced RPers a chance to RP and connect with other RPers, and 3) a launchpad for other adventures; consider using this event as a “lobby” for RP—maybe you can stop by the Pony to find a Ranger who will join you on a quest to banish brigands from your farm, a Dwarf-broker to clear your debts, or adventurers to join you on a treasure-hunt. Use this event as a means to develop your own stories!

How
