'At the Sign of the Prancing Pony' (Every Friday; 2:00 & 7:00 PM)

The smell of pipeweed and the sound of merry laughter drifts from the open door of the Inn of the Prancing Pony. It is a Highday, and like every Highday, Barliman Butterbur has opened his  common room to guests from lands near and far to sample his beer in exchange for coin, conversation, and a promise 'not to go up into thin air, thank you very much!'

This week's (January 10, 2025) hook:

Thievery and mischief! Poor old Barliman Butterbur has been robbed in the dead of night! In distress, the innkeep has shut himself up in his room, leaving Nob and Bob to mind the Pony this Highday.

‘Oh, they bled him, the poor man,’ Bob can be heard saying to some of the patrons in the common room, ‘Just bled him! Took his pennies (64 bits of the copper, and 32 of the silver if we’re to be exact – and I will be, I counted them!), and, the very worst of it is, they took his dear mother’s very best silver spoons and silver dishes. You know how sweet he was on old Mrs. Butterbur. Catastrophe, and there aren’t two ways of putting it! Oh… there’s my call! Yes, Nob—right away, Nob! No, Mr. Underhill, sir, that’s right: you asked for the fish-pie, not the pud! Let me fix that up for you; this’ll be the last time I go back there, sir, I’m sure of it: you’ll get your pie!’

Left to feast only on the rumours of Bob and Nob, and the less-than-wholesome (and often confused) fare the two deputy innkeepers manage to serve, patrons of the inn murmur their discontent: how ever will Barliman recover from this loss? What can Bree-town do for a man who has given the town so very much? Is there anyone who might find this burglar and restore to Barliman his belongings?

What, Where, and When

‘At the Sign of the Prancing Pony’ is a weekly story-based roleplay event series held every Friday at 2:00 and 7:00 PM server-time which seeks to bring the community together under the roof of LOTRO’s Prancing Pony, with the event being relocated to an inn or tavern of the Roleplayers of Laurelin's Discord server’s community’s choice on the last Friday of every month.

Each event will include a unique story “hook”, and will be broken into two sessions or timeslots: an earlier session for EU players will begin at 2:00 PM server-time and a later session for NA players will begin at 7:00 PM server-time. It is possible and even likely that these sessions will overlap with each other!

Please note that these events will not feature a DM: you are free to run with the weekly hook as you choose, and to come as early or as late as you’d like.

Why

While roleplay in the Prancing Pony is nothing new, the intention of this event is to offer: 1) disparate members of the RP community a single time and place for RP, 2) new or inexperienced RPers a chance to RP and connect with other RPers, and 3) a launchpad for other adventures; consider using this event as a “lobby” for RP—maybe you can stop by the Pony to find a Ranger who will join you on a quest to banish brigands from your farm, a Dwarf-broker to clear your debts, or adventurers to join you on a treasure-hunt. Use this event as a means to develop your own stories!

How

Simply visit the Prancing Pony and start RPing! All roleplayers who attend this event and join the Roleplayers of Laurelin Discord server will get a chance at the ‘At the Sign of the Prancing Pony’ 150 gold giveaway, drawn every month!
