06/01/2024 --- Marching Towards Annuminas: Forged in Battle
As the dawn's early light cascaded over the ancient stones of Tinnundir Keep, Captain Belenir solemnly departed his chambers, his footsteps echoing through the hallowed halls. He was bound for the grand assembly, a gathering of great import. It was in these venerable corridors that he encountered Aethelhard, a man of dignified bearing, who introduced himself as an emissary of Belenir's esteemed comrade, Master Dwarf Gamgdrong. Together, they made their entrance into the august assembly. The air was thick with anticipation as Captain Belenir prepared to unveil the intricacies of their upcoming venture. Yet, before he could impart his wisdom, the assembly's ranks swelled with the arrival of illustrious figures. Aethelhard, esteemed as the diplomat liaison between the formidable dwarf holds of Thorin's Hall and Aglarond, took his place among them. Gundislavus, a lore master of Gondor whose wisdom was as deep as the ancient texts he studied, added to the gravity of the assembly. Nimrostel, the bane of Uruk Hai, whose fame had spread from the darkened forests of Mirkwood, graced the gathering, her recent forays into the wild having guided her path to this destiny. Lastly, the assembly was honored by the presence of Forngarmo, known far and wide as 'The Northern Wolf.' A ranger of no small renown, her arrival completed the circle of these formidable guardians of the realm.
Moments after the assembly concluded, Captain Belenir transitioned swiftly to his next critical task. As the morning sun continued to rise, casting long shadows across the assembly ground, he stood before his troops, the very picture of leadership and strategic acumen. His voice, clear and commanding, cut through the morning air as he addressed his valiant warriors. "Brave souls, the hour has arrived for us to engage the corsairs. Our intelligence is unequivocal – Hamzir Dahab Al Umbari and his forces are cognizant of our approach and will be well-prepared..." He detailed their strategy with precision, outlining the roles of Team Red and Team Blue, their primary and secondary objectives, and the plans of engagement. After his succinct briefing, the company collectively indicated their understanding without a word, a silent testament to their readiness and resolve. With the assistance of Achillenor and his mariners, they embarked on rowboats, setting a course for Rantost. Their spirits were as steady as the boats that carried them towards their formidable objective, united in their resolve to confront the challenges that lay ahead.
Having successfully navigated their way to Rantost, Captain Belenir and his company swiftly concealed themselves behind dense bushes, carefully hiding their rowboats as per their meticulously planned strategy. True to their intelligence, three elite corsairs adorned in golden armor and white bandanas stood guard, deeply engrossed in conversation. Seizing the moment, Team Blue swiftly eliminated two of the guards. The remaining corsair, catching a glimpse of his fallen comrades, barely had time to react before Belenir, with a deft throw of his knife, silenced him forever. The teams then split, each following their designated paths. Team Blue moved to execute the secondary phase of their plan — burning the corsair's rowboats to prevent escape. Meanwhile, Team Red, led by Belenir, proceeded stealthily towards the camp. In the camp, Team Red encountered five corsairs, two awake by the fire and three asleep. Thandanar, Forngarmo, Aethelhard, and Belenir efficiently neutralized this threat and advanced towards point B. Upon their arrival, they were greeted by the sight of burning rowboats and the arrival of ten additional corsairs who, upon realizing the attack, sounded the alarm.
The company, now faced with a narrowing window of opportunity, launched a swift and deadly assault, eliminating all ten corsairs. Amidst the chaos, Thandanar's keen eye surveyed the battlefield, calling for a shield wall formation. The team responded in unison, forming a defensive barrier while the wizard conjured a storm of lightning, decimating the approaching corsairs. However, in the heat of battle, Aelwynna's powers misfired, causing unintended harm to Aethelhard. Minaiadan, amidst the smoke and confusion, managed to avoid further friendly fire. The company, though momentarily disoriented, quickly regrouped and resumed their defense against the corsair onslaught. As Belenir led the charge, the tide of battle turned. The corsairs, realizing their dwindling numbers and the strength of their adversaries, began to retreat. Fajr, their commander, accompanied by a few guards, fled towards the inner camp. With the immediate threat neutralized, the company focused on pressing forward. Thandanar, keeping a level head, reminded them of the potential dangers ahead, speculating about an ambush. Forngarmo, despite her mistrust, came to Aelwynna's aid, embodying the spirit of camaraderie in the face of adversity.
As the company prepared to advance to the inner camp, they braced themselves for the challenges that awaited them, their resolve unshaken despite the fierce battle they had just endured. Their journey towards the heart of Rantost was set to continue, each member keenly aware of the stakes at hand and the valor required to overcome them. The company's ascent up the stairs culminated in a moment of critical intensity. They found themselves confronted by the last formidable line of Corsair defense. The air was thick with tension as Fajr and his elite warriors, including the towering Malikar and the agile Seraphia, stood ready for battle. The ominous presence of Harzim, his two-handed axe gleaming ominously, added to the formidable atmosphere. As Harzim stepped forward, the battle's din was momentarily replaced by a deafening silence. His proposal for a duel between the best fighters from each side was met with suspicion but accepted by the company. "Forngarmo" and Thandanar stepped forward as the chosen champions. Harzim proudly introduced his champions, Malikar, and Seraphia, each a fearsome warrior in their own right. The company, undaunted, readied themselves for the confrontation.
The duel began with a ferocious intensity. Malikar's immense strength was evident as he clashed with Thandanar, while Forngarmo engaged in a swift exchange of blows with Seraphia. The battle raged on, with each side delivering and receiving brutal blows. Thandanar, despite a severe injury, refused to yield, while Forngarmo, even wounded, continued to fight with relentless determination. As the duel reached its climax, Thandanar, summoning every ounce of his strength, delivered a decisive blow to Malikar, felling the giant Corsair. At the same time, Forngarmo, with a swift and deadly strike, brought an end to Seraphia's onslaught. However, the battle was far from over. Harzim, consumed by rage, signaled his remaining Corsairs to attack. The company, now joined by Aelwynna, rallied to face this new wave of adversaries. In the thick of battle, Thandanar, demonstrating incredible resilience, continued to fight despite his injuries. The battle reached a fever pitch as Harzim, pointing a menacing finger at Forngarmo, unleashed his wrath. The company, pushed to their limits, fought valiantly against the overwhelming odds. In a moment of heroism, Thandanar, with a final, powerful stroke, vanquished Malikar. "And so the storm ends," he declared, signaling a turning point in the fierce combat. As the dust settled and the sounds of battle faded, the company stood, weary but victorious. They had overcome the formidable Corsair defense, proving their mettle in one of the most challenging confrontations they had ever faced.
The battlefield's uneasy silence was shattered as the remaining seven Corsairs, fueled by desperation and rage, charged towards the company . Aelwynna, already struggling with her wound, unsheathed her dagger with her non-dominant hand, determination etched on her face despite the pain. Minaiadan rallied his allies with a battle cry, "Fight, fight for the North, and a red dusk of corsair blood!" In the midst of the fray, Thandanar, having drawn his sword from the fallen Umbarrim behemoth, braced for the Corsairs' onslaught. Aelwynna, overwhelmed by the approaching danger, felt a dark power surging within her. Struggling to suppress it, she inadvertently unleashed a potent blast of energy, which sent her and those around her crashing to the ground unconscious. In the ensuing chaos, As Harzim was hurled towards the shoreline by the blast, he quickly regained his senses. Realizing the dire situation, he wasted no time and made a hasty escape using a hidden boat, leaving his trusted soldier and lieutenant, Fajr, behind. The blast had a significant impact on the battlefield. Captain Belenir was thrown against a wall, rendered unconscious. Achillenor, arriving with his Mariners, quickly assessed the situation, rushing to Belenir's aid and asking, "What happened?" Forngarmo, recovering from the blast, swiftly secured Fajr, ensuring he could not escape. Achillenor and Minaiadan, recognizing the critical state of their company, ordered a strategic retreat to their rowboats. They carried the unconscious captain with great care, while Midhanarth, the wizard, safeguarded his sword.
Upon their return to Tinnundir, Fajr was imprisoned, and Belenir was taken to his chambers for healing. Exhausted from the battle's toll, both Aelwynna and Forngarmo collapsed, prompting Achillenor and Minaiadan to call for rest and medical attention for the weary company. Harzim's escape, while a temporary setback, left him isolated and without his Corsair force. His whereabouts became a mystery, but his defeat at Rantost marked a significant victory for the company. In the relative safety of Tinnundir, the company found a moment to recover and reflect. They had endured and triumphed in a formidable confrontation, but the threat of Harzim loomed in the distance, a challenge they would have to face another day. For now, their immediate concern was recovery and preparation for the battle of Annuminas.
