The Sword on the Snow

Reiven stood still on the snow covered plains looking around to decide if it is a place of peace as Lord Tindir asked her to find for her training.

She elf turned her looks down to her loyal friend Khal, which is like a big black spot on the snow. “What do you think Khal? Is it peaceful enough?”

The big cat croaked and rolled in the snow lazily.

“I’m glad it’s safe enough for you to take a nap then” muttered in a happy mood and took off her gloves along with her cloak, leaving them on the snow.

On the mountain even when the sun shines bright and warm the wind was cold. Reiven felt chilly and reconsidered wearing her cloak back. But then Lord Tindirs’ words echoed in her mind .. It must be a place where your hands become cold.. “

She nodded firmly thinking that cloak also restrains her movements.

Sun moved on the blue sky as she concentrates over her training till Khal cocks up his ears growling deeply.

Reiven moved to stand next to him. “Something wrong?” she whispered peering into the distance. Then she noticed a movement on the snow like someone’s walking up to the plain where she was practicing.

“Lord Teremonth…” voiced his name before seeing. She put her hand onto Khals’ head saying “Easy my boy… he is not a danger.”

Khal growled again obviously not pleased but obeyed her wish.

“Mae g’ovannen Hiril Reiven” said the he elf like he was just passing by.

“Mae g’ovannen Lord Teremonth… which winds blow you up here I wonder?” said Reiven holding up her sword to continue training.

He just smiled as an answer which made Reiven felt nervous.

“I see you are practicing with sword m’lady”

Reiven nodded in silent feeling more cold and contrary with every passing second. Her fingers were freezing after staying out in the snow for hours.

“I’m using sword myself” said Teremonth “and I’d be more than happy to help if you let me.”

“Very kind of you my Lord but no help is necessary”

His green looks sparkled with amusement; hand clenched the hilt of his sword saying, “Then Hiril Reiven show me where you stand on your training”

She felt the sudden pulse which caused her to lift her chin with a stubborn gesture.

 “As you wish my lord”

Teremonth studied carefully how she holds, how she balances the sword then nodded in silent withdrawing his sword.

“Now, raise your arm!” ordered Teremonth before swung and greet his sword fiercely against hers. Reiven felt the strong pulse spreads starting from sword arm to toes. Hilt moved in her hand causing the thin chaps start to bleed slightly and the sword fell onto the snow with a clump sound.

“Hiril Reiven your hands…” Teremonth took a swift step against her to care for her wound.

She elf felt ashamed and kneeled down to pick a handful of snow to clean her hands.

Teremonth stopped with an understanding smile hidden in his eyes and cut a clean cloth into two strips which he took from his pack.

“Just let me wrap this on your hand…” and continued looking at her “please…”

Reiven extend her hand out still tentatively without a word but he pretend not to noticed her timidity and continued talking about his first trainings just make her feel better…
