Bell's journey to Minas Tirith for the Great Wedding, and then back to the Shire.

Bell has made short journeys in the past: to Bree many times, and once west to the Blue Mountains. This is her first great journey. The wedding invitation she receives inspires her to set out on an adventure more daring than she has ventured before.
She overcomes deadly risks, meets interesting new people, and gains access to ancient tomes of lore (well beyond anything available in Bree and Michel Delving). And on the way back she gets to visit the fabled valley of Rivendell, and read an awful lot more old books.
To achieve things, sometimes you just have to take a risk and extend yourself. Does she gain anything? Well, you will see whether she gains anything in the end. But at least she doesn't lose any respectability, because she wasn't terribly respectable to start with. Not in the Shire, anyway.
