Subject: Human, male, middle-aged
Cause of death: Choking, hands
I was summoned by the Watch to inspect the bodies, three of them. A storm hit the town and caused a lot of damage.
The man I inspected in the jail cell was choked to death during the storm. Constable Lily Applewood told me that no one was here during the storm. The prisoners were uneasy during my visit.
They believe that something unnatural caused this man's death, describing a transparent figure moving in the flashing light. I'm not ready to swallow that theory, yet.
While clear that this man was choked there is an oddity I have yet to explain. The mark around his neck, they are burn marks. It's almost as if the hands of those who caused this man's death were on fire.
I thought this might be the work of an illness, the one that will eat a person inside out. After further study it's clear that these are burn marks, the skin scorched.
I will have to hold this body longer for further examination.
Subject: Human, female, adult
Cause of death: Two cuts to her torso, eyes gorged out, heart removed
I have seen many deaths in my life but none like this. It shakes me to the core. I was warned before I entered underneath the sheets of the market stall and yet, I was not prepared.
This is not the first time I have seen the eyes removed. Madmen. I remember father telling me stories of foul rituals, where the heart is cut out. However, this makes no sense. The ribcage is not broken. The bones seem bent, pried aside in an unnatural way. It shouldn't be possible, yet seems like it is.
I will have to keep the body for further examination.
Subject: Dwarf, male, age unknown
Cause of death: Slit throat
The last body I was shown was in the Inn, The Prancing Pony. Why the bodies were not moved away from the public still puzzles me, but I will not question the Watch's work.
There doesn't seem to be anything strange about the dwarf's death, unlike the other two. The head was nearly taken off and barely held by a stretch of flesh at the back.
I have examined the body fully and have found no trace of any further injury. I will make my notes, prepare the body and send it back to Bree to be laid to rest.
