Archives of Tum Escal : T.A. T.M. Volume 690. Entry 750

We have no report of Lady Carnifinde’s progress since Aearlinn returned to Tum Escal, seven days ago. That naught of importance had transpired between Forlond and Mithlond is not unexpected.

Aearlinn herself is dutifully aiding Arnone and Cirthel in the Libraries, and spends some time working in the gardens. She appears somewhat withdrawn to me, possibly wishing she had been allowed to accompany the Lady further? I understand that feeling. It was ever so for me when the previous Lady was out and about in Endor. I can offer Aearlinn little advice save to busy herself with what lies before her here. There is plenty to do.

Gaerion returned yesterday.

He was distressed he had missed Carnifinde by so short a space of time, and said he may ride out after her in a few days. It seems that will depend on what he finds. He is making use of our records it appears. His compliance with Istarnie's wishes, his search for Carnifinde’s cousin, has not proven fruitful as yet, but he says he had news that he considers promising. I note he is searching records of movements in Forlindon and Forochel in the early Second Age, specifically any that involved the folk of Cirdan and any of the Feanorian aligned Noldor. I, too, have had suspicions in that area, though not in regard to this case.

On a different note, Cirthel returned from the Port earlier this day, saying there was news in Mithlond of one of the Secondborn, a woman, bringing information of an Elf slain in the Lone Lands. This was of import because there was reason to believe the elf was from the Falas. Most sorrowful that any such death is, what intrigues me more is that Cirthel seemed uncommonly interested in the messenger and is now preparing to ride to Mithlond herself. I have asked her to give my greetings and carry a letter from me to Curumaito. I am merely asking him if he would care to spend a few days with us at Tum Escal. He is a good friend. I also wish to converse again with him regarding what happened to Lady Istarnie.

Few letters have arrived this week, save one from a traveller seeking access to the Halls later in the year. He states that he was of the folk of Prince Caranthir, though I have found nothing to confirm that. Neither does Serewen say she knows of him. We shall see.
