The Silver Blades Announce The Great Race VII

It is with the greatest of pleasure and anticipation that we, The Silver Blades, announce the 7th Great  Horse Race!  With free entry for all comers of all races among the Free People, and prizes of gold for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.   You have nothing to lose, but everything to gain!  Come and join us for what promises to be the Event of October!

Date:
October 5th, 2010
Time:
19.45 GMT
Location:
High King's Crossing in Evendim

Event details:

(cont OOC)...the High King's Crossing in Evendim, Eriador on Tuesday, October 5 2010, 7.45pm GMT (Laurelin Server EU).  The details of the race, besides the starting point, have been planned by two of our own Silver Blades and will be kept secret until the off.  But it will span a number of checkpoints before the finishing line and, I'm told, will take about 30-35 minutes to complete (depending on how many times you fall off your horse/get lost/take an ale pit-stop etc).  Unlike many of our Great Races in the past, we are pleased to also announce that this one will be FREE to enter! Yes, you will pay nothing. Winners' Purses will be made up of whatever loose change the Silver Blade Officers have jingling around their pouches ;)  Although any donations are, of course, welcome - these will be added to the Winners' Purses and most definitely NOT to the Silver Blades Ale Kitty. We would also like to assure any non-Silver Blade racers that this has been organised completely in good fun and good faith and, should a Silver Blade win (which is likely, owing to our excessive levels of skill and daring compared to that of other kinships), they have absolutely not been fore-told the Checkpoints or the Finish, and been given days to practice the best route. As a measure of hopefully further good faith, the organisers and Marshalls (Amrea, Halendur and Oitur) and myself (Reghar) will not be racing.

All Free People are very welcome to come along and join in - we hope to see you and your trusty steeds champing at the bit on the starting line.

Any questions, please contact Halendur, Oitur or Reghar.

Rules/Instructions of the Race:

The Great Race VII consists of the Start, 2 Checkpoints and a Finish

1) Course Rules: Horses only. How ever firmly attached you might be to your goat, we're afraid these are not permitted. The last one chewed up and ate the Starting Banner! Absolutely no porting, summoning, swift travel etc is allowed. All Riders will be in Raid grouping and will be closely observed by Carac, son of Ronin, son of Roac, son of Carc, Chief of the Ravens of the Mountain (who has kindly agreed to serve as our 'eye in the sky' for the event).

2) Dismounting and Death: If you are dismounted or (Valar forbid!) you die, you are free to remount (or revive and remount) and continue. If you ride or tumble into an area of water and need to swim out, this is allowed, however no movement buffs are to be used.  Please also bear in mind that some areas you ride through might be populated with mobs that will attack lower level characters - so entry for these are at the player's own risk :)

3) Checkpoints: You will be given the name and coordinates of Checkpoint 1 at the Start of the Race, the name and coordinates of Checkpoint 2 when you pass Checkpoint 1, and the location and coordinates of the Finish when you pass Checkpoint 2. You can see the exact coordinates of where you are in Middle Earth under your Mini-map.

4) Proof-of-Passing Items: Each Racer will be handed a Proof-of-Passing Item by one of the three Marshalls stationed at each Checkpoint, 1 and 2. The Marshalls are Silver Blades Amrea, Halendur and Oitur. These two Proof-of-Passing Items will need to be handed in when you reach the Finish.

5) Finishing: The Winner will be the first Racer to arrive at the Finish Line, dismount and emote a BOW within close proximity of one of the Marshalls waiting there. 'Close' proximity means basically within talking distance (not BOWING from 100m away!). If, after trading with the Marshall, they are found to be carrying both Proof-of-Passing Items following their BOW, they will be announced the Winner.

6) Prizes:  These will be announced prior to the Race but will probably consist of differing amounts of gold pieces (yes GOLD - not silver or copper ;)) for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.

Tips for Assured Success:

i) Learn how to see where you are in Middle Earth by using your coordinates indicator found under the Mini-Map. If you are not familiar with the name of a Checkpoint or the Finish, you can find it by using coordinates which will also be told to you. Or alternatively you can follow the Rider in front, which is fine until they lead you both into a stinking bog full of man-eating toads.

ii) Are your bags tidy before you start the Race? You will need to trade your Proof-of-Passing Items with a Marshall when (and if!) you finish the Race. Make sure you pretty much know which bag/slots these will be allocated to when you are given them. There is nothing worse than knowing you are carrying something, but having to fumble through all the other crap in your bags to find it. If you're not very familiar with trading and/or separating stacked items, have a practice before the Race. It could be all that stands between a podium spot and accepting a wooden spoon for coming last, having been roundly beaten by EVERYONE ELSE!

iii) Have fun :)
