Captain's Quick Report: North Downs Campaign: Free Peoples of Evendim
A long day, a sore day -- well hoho, actually 'tis not that bad of a day. With my departure from dear Master Silon and Miss Dassa's wedding earlier today, I somehow -- through the luck and blurring passage of time that often pervades my travelling habits throughout the land on Bree Captain's Guild business -- was able to arrive in Tinnudir to meet with First Marshal Mattharan, of The Northern Garrison.
Tinnudir being in the lands of Evendim, was the meeting place for where Free Peoples folk of that region rallying to The Northern Garrison's call for aid in their upcoming North Down Campaign would depart from. Though I am more based out of the Bree-land, being where the main office of the Bree Captain's Guild is headquartered -- my ongoing duties as a travelling representative of the Guild make it fair enough to still yet attend I think -- another sword-arm to ward off the Enemy forces whom might deter this coming campaign strike against their growing force in the North Downs is still of good help eh? At least, this Bree Captain hopes so! It was a shame however, that unfortunate circumstances bid me to miss the previous week's rallying from Bree-land to the North Downs, which had marked the beginning of The Northern Garrison's campaign preparation.
Master Mattharan was already waiting calmly with that Elven grace of his by the stable-master operating in Tinnudir's camp of Rangers. After learning we were to depart in an half-hour or so, to give a slight more time for additional reinforcements to arrive, I took the opportunity to rest slightly and attend to some letters, writing, and a swift meal to prepare for the long trek we would soon embark on.
Within that time, only a few others appeared intent on accompanying this journey towards The Northern Garrison's rallying point in Esteldin, in the North Downs. A (Miss I believe) Master Dwarf named Azarosa, and then the Lady Mindriana of the same kinship of Master Mattharan -- she being the leader of Grenrill Village also. Shortly after our departure from the camp at Tinnudir, Master Serattil of the renowned kinship Coursera (( Course of the Ring )) also joined us at the crossroads of Canadiach.
From there we made swift journey by foot to the borders of where the Evendim lands met that of the North Downs -- a point known as The Evendim Gate. Here, Master Mattharan spoke with a contact friendly to the cause, and was advised further beyond along the same path into the North Downs there had been sightings of Orcs and other foul creatures. Passing through the gate itself, we encountered our first battle with Oath-breaker Chieftans, fell and near ghostly creatures whom seemed quite in need of finding their inner peace and calm! With luck, perhaps our brief defeat of them as we passed through might have done just that, but perhaps that will forever remain a mystery.
Moving into the Fields of Fornost, an observation by Master Mattharan rang true in regards to how the road from The Evendim Gate seemed to be 'lost to ages' for quite a ways into the area of those vast fields, on the brink of what looked like early dread and gloom, yet still green in grass, but with barren trees void of leaves scattered about. It wasn't until we reached the Greenway area that we caught sight again of a road -- the ancient North-South Road, which in these parts of the North Downs connects to the ruined city of Fornost, of the old Arnor Kingdom thousands of years past, and later the capitol city of the Kingdom of Arthedain.
Further on, we took towards the west -- beginning the journey along another road that would take us through the forested Annudir area, then finally the rolling hills of the Kingsfell region, before reaching our final destination of Esteldin. We fought off several creatures of the wilds that threatened our small company, though I doubt that with Master Mattharan as a highly skilled Warden, Master Dwarf Azarosa talented with the ways of a Minstrel, Master Serattil as an experienced Champion of arms, and Lady Mindriana a skilled Hunter with the bow -- nothing much would have stood a chance against such a stalwart collaboration of individuals on this immediate journey, and with good fortune - nothing indeed did!
With glad hearts I believe, did we at last reach that entrance to the safe refuge which was Esteldin, and there our small but brave fellowship took it's leave to rest and resupply ourselves after the long endeavor. Though the numbers were humble of today's rallying from Evendim to the North Downs on behalf of the campaign The Northern Garrison is preparing to strike against the Enemy forces here in the North Downs -- I did feel nonetheless a close bonding of sorts with this brave company. Though just the few of us, it tells of a larger part of a story where perhaps many others may yet eventually rally forth at Esteldin with these members of The Northern Garrison, and as a united force -- address targets of opportunity amongst the Enemy camps and evil throughout these lands of the North Downs.
Master Mattharan mentioned, before my departure for rest and tented lodgings, that most likely one last rallying call will be made sometime in the next week, and operations will begin in earnest after that to aid The Northern Garrison in their planned missions and actual campaign tasks in the North Downs.
This early quick report is in fact quite detailed, and though I plan for the future another official, full and in-depth report to be written and submitted afterwards relating to this event, it would not be so inappropriate to perhaps consider this quite fulfilling of all the important points and notable happenings to document from this event -- as most of my early quick reports are by tradition, but this one perhaps more so -- to the point of being a full and final report itself from my hand.
All the same, I have managed to take the time to plan some rough drawings, sketches, and even early paintings to submit with this quick report for the Archives of the Grey Repository, and I hope they will arrive safely together.
