Entry Fifteen: Ost Baranor
A night spent so close to the Barrow-downs, is enough to send chills down the backs of the bravest men. One would stand alone for the most part, until a wandering dwarf would approach. We would share few words, neither giving away too much of their identities. Though bearded, the dwarf spoke with a womanly tone. She explained it was destiny that would lead her to the Barrow-downs. Destiny is a word thrown around loosely. Is it destiny that leads one to his destination?
As dawn broke, it was time for one to depart. One would say farewell to the Dwarf before riding as hard as he could, traversing the wastelands of the Barrow-downs. It was then, when reaching the border that one could view that of the town of Bree from afar. Many days and nights had once been spent within those walls, when aiding those of the Bloody Dawn. Friends had been made and lost, yet one could not venture back without trouble.
One would keep to the wilderness, heading towards the one place near that no one tends to ask questions… the Forsaken Inn. But one would come across a wounded man, who would not be long for this world once reached. His last action was to point in one direction, towards the ruin of what was once Ost Baranor.
Against better judgement, one would investigate what lay in wait within the ruin. Bands of Blackwold Bandits had found refuge within the ruin. Drinking, training and tormenting where just a few of the activities one witnessed within Ost Baranor. They held few prisoners, which was cause enough for what was to unfold. Drawing that of one’s bow, he took those out that he could, hiding within shadow. But it would take steel to drop the guard, drawing that of his father’s sword and slaying him.
One prisoner gave one a hug, before running off with the others as he set them free. Watching them flock towards Bree was warming, yet troubling at once. One decided to inspect that of the guard’s person, finding a piece of folded parchment. It spoke of a stronghold, where prisoners where to be transported to, not far from the town of Archet. With further inspection, one found something odd… the mark of the Bloody Dawn.
Could this be from one of old? Or perhaps there is more to be found within the other stronghold? One shall make it his duty to inspect such, but for now he must go onward to the Forsaken Inn.
