Parnard has recently asked many questions pertaining to the history of the Noldor, and Estarfin and Danel think it time to explain some things to their Wood Elf friend. Although he is knowledgeable of certain names and events, Parnard had some issues recalling so many names beginning with the letter 'F'. He also learns a thing or two about the Valar. All from a Feanorian perspective of course.
"You wish them restored?" Estarfin asks, as he and Danel examine the weapons she has placed in his hall.
The two Noldor struggle to deal with what happened the previous day, that she brought a woman to their home, knowing how Estarfin would react; that he accused her of trying to test him, make a fool of him.
"Why did you do it?" he asked. "I want to understand."
"I do not know, Estarfin." she answers truthfully. "Please, do not leave."
'This place was always dreary, so much cloud.' he said, heading for the bridge.
I looked around, stretching my neck to see the gaps between the houses. 'It is just grey now. No life anywhere. Everything looks the same. No colours, no brightness."
My spirit quailled that he had chosen this for himself, for so long.
He nodded at my observations.
'Was that tree alive' I asked, pointing at a bare looking remnant of what had likely been a tall beech.
Danel had oft wondered at Estarfin's period of solitude during most of the Second Age. He agrees to take her to the place he dwelt, before an unattended fire destroyed his livelihood and freed him to move on to Imladris.
The whole village is now abandoned and mostly a ruin, but he tells her of what it was once like for him.
"I wish you had chosen to come to Eregion." she says, though she could see him slain in the battles to protect the place had that actually been his choice.
“It is hard to find you sometimes among so many fine houses” said Estarfin, as he crossed the hall to stand with Parnard and I near the furnace. A straightforward statement of observation, he had made similar comment about my house in Mithlond. I knew I should speak with him soon, less there was something irking him that could grow out of proportion. Many houses hereabouts lay empty and deserted.
Danel is pleased to see an old device still being used on some fires. She tries to explain it to Parnard and Estarfin, who both don't seem to have a clue what she is talking about. "Welcome to my world," Parnard says to Estarfin, as he often can't understand what Danel is talking about.
