Roaming around Eriador, should you follow the water streams and wander along hidden water ponds, you may see, or be observed by Elintir, ranger of the north. Elintir (Elin-tir ; The Watching Star) is his name at birth, his people sometimes call him Merilin, the nightingale. Because like the nightingale, the delicate hum of Merilin's flute can be heard at night to the careful wanderer of the water ponds.
To the people of Bree he is known either as - Hooter - or - the flute player.
Elintir is a lonesome character whose friends consist mostly in his flute. He is wise and kind, although he may not appear so on the outward. Elintir is an excellent fighter, extremely swift. He finds fun in challenges and discretion, reaching his ends not always in the most orthodox manners.
