Background
Bethegor was born in the town of Calembel. As the son of a wealthy family with his father as a local constable, Bethegor rose through the ranks of the local town guard as reached adulthood, eventually reaching the post of Captain at Arms for the local guard.
Bethegor son of Ecthelor became known as a local hero in Calembel, leading the guard against brigands and goblin raids. While notorious for his rash behavior and impulsive mind, he was credited for his humility and kindness to those he commanded the loyalty from. As a leader of many men who were older than him, Bethegor always showed a willingness to learn from his subordinates, affirming that though he may have earned his position through family wealth and prestige, he would honor it through his own merit and leadership.
As the forces of Mordor and their allies grew stronger and bolder, Bethegor argued that Gondor must mobilize their forces in full to launch an offensive, to defeat the evil before it had a chance to strike. He was a voice of unrest to all folk in the region, who feared what sort of trouble and war the young captain could get them into. After being refused an audience with the Steward Denethor, Bethegor took matters into his own hands. Knowing that his father held close ties with the dwarven families of Ered Luin, Bethegor stepped down from his position as a Captain to leave in search of allies. Rallying like-minded people of Gondor to travel with him, he left his home to gather forces to assist in taking the battle to Sauron- in The Ettenmoors, Angmar, or Mordor itself.
As he traveled through the lands in the west, he heard many rumors- Of the evils of Isengard, and of an heir to the throne of Gondor returning. Bethegor knew very little of this rumored heir, but he knew that it was time for the kings of Gondor to return. He pledged his allegiance, as well as the small band of men who followed him from Gondor, to this heir, and vowed to support his rise to the throne.
He continued his journey to Thorin's Gate with renewed purpose- to seek council from the dwarf families he had known as a child, old friends of his father and grandfather. With hope, he could find warriors here to join his company.
