| Outward Appearance | Duarion has the clear eyed look of a young man from the far realm of Gondor. His clothes are dark and worn, although there is a glint of covered metal on his upper body - it is strange for someone who looks like an ordinary traveller to be wearing armour. Often, his hood is drawn up over his face and he keeps a low profile.
The twin daggers at his belt suggest a quick and lethal approach to fighting. They are uncannily sharp and Duarion deeply dislikes being parted from them. His expression is often difficult to read, particularly with his habit of staying in the shadows and trying not to draw attention. His boots are often flecked with mud, suggesting plenty of time out and about in the wild. |

Background
Duarion was born in a coastal fishing village not far from Dol Amroth in Gondor. The village was raided by pirates when he was only a year old, leaving him an orphan. He was rescued by some older boys who also survived and together they ended up on the streets of Dol Amroth as beggars and cut-purses.
This was Duarion's life until he reached fifteen. At this time, Captain Faramir was visiting the city and noticed the beggar-boys who had become very good at stealth and misdirection. Instead of punishing them, he recruited them as Rangers of Ithilien, duty bound to patrol the borders on the edge of the Black Land.
However, Duarion's dark background never entirely left him and on one occasion his greed got the better of him, attempting to steal more than his share of a raid. This ended in tragedy when he accidentally killed one of his friends, thinking him an enemy sneaking up behind. Duarion was exiled and travelled to the far north.
For many seasons, he acted as a mercenary, not caring where the jobs came from if he was paid well. He is still sour about having to leave Gondor although he does express it in his own unique way: bringing about the deaths of many enemy soldiers to try and repay the debt to his murdered friend.
More recently, he encountered Lady Saeldith of House Thorongial. She provided him with an opportunity to regain his honour and earn the right to return to Gondor. While he was still unpredictable, he at least had something to fight for. And with his marriage to Lady Saeldith, he finally allowed himself some measure of happiness.

However, his fate was not that of a Lord. Upon return to his home, and seeing it in darkness, Duarion was consumed by a need to fight for Gondor. At the cost of his family and friends, he returned to a life of violence, seeking something that even he could not quite define. But as fast as he runs, his past is slowly but surely catching up... Now he must protect his wife and baby son despite abandoning them.
