The Merchant Way
As the Dwarves of Durin's Folk continue on their trade expedition to Rohan to deliver a shipment of quality Dwarven ale, they run into some Dunlending brigands squatting in some ruins. These Dunlending brigands demand a toll. Instead of paying the toll, the Dwarves talk their way out of it by giving one of Frimsi's "discount gems" as a promise that they will return to pay the toll later. This was Thorlaen's idea, and then Shildrin really seals the deal. Thinking the discount gem to be real, the Dunlending brigands eagerly accept it. So the Dwarves of Durin's Folk managed to get out of paying a road toll without a fight. Perhaps the way of the merchant isn't so bad...
