Setting Out
So they met up outside the Inn, a little after breakfast. Both had packed as well as they could for the undertaking. Neither had slept well.
Sarno and Hazil had been told what was going on, with suggestions not to tell others unless needful. If either Lithea or Tolbold had any important news while still in the Shire, they would write. Hopefully their letters would pass through honest hands.
Lithea was feeling both nervous and excited. It was an adventure, but she had no doubts it could be a dangerous one. Hobbits were often brave, but she realised they were only small folk when it came to dealing with larger numbers of Men.
'Remember now, yer have ancestors who fought alongside Men and Elves at Fornost. Don't let 'em down,' she told herself.
"Ter the Elven Lands first then, Tolbold?"
The Assistant Shirriff nodded, but he was brighter of eye than he had been the previous night. "Aye, Lithea. Them Elves be back from their travels some weeks ago. I want ter see if High Lord Parnard has any thoughts."
"They do say something like 'Go not ter Elves for advice, for them say both yes and no.' Lithea grinned.
"They be kind ter us so far. They help where they can," Tolbold said, recalling past events.
"They are a good folk," Lithea confirmed. "But not invincible."
Tolbold gave her a strange look, as they set off along the path from Tighfield.
